After shooting the early light of the morning down at Cape Schanck I thought I’d take a quick shot of the sun light reflecting off the large boulders in this little cove. I love the warm colours and shapes of wet boulders in the sun. If you ever go down to this place when the tied is high and the weather a little on the wild side, the massive waves that come crashing in to this little space throw these boulders around making an awesome rumbling sound. A must see if you live close enough to the Mornington Peninsula.

It fascinates me how creation myths and evolutionary thought seem to converge around the possibility of a spark such as this igniting life. / Taken off the “Balcony” – a beautiful section of coastal cliffs in Royal National Park just south of Sydney Australia during a spectacular storm. I’ve shot about half a dozen storms here this year. The others all drifted out to sea which made them nice and safe and easy to photo so I got lulled into a false sense of security with this one. It decided to head straight up to where I was photographing and at one stage I had to hide under a rock overhang with bolts going off all around – deeply scary but wouldn’t have missed it for anything – a magic night of biblical proportions I can tell you and one I’ll never forget. San Ignacio Lagoon is one of the best places in the world to see Gray whales and their calves up close. During the calving season you can go out into the lagoon in a small boat (called a panga), and after a short wait, the whale mum and calf will come up to you. They (mainly the calf) love to rub themselves against the boats and also to be scratched! You really get a close up look into their eyes! Then, just when you start to feel at one with each them, they blow salt water in your face and all over your camera! Rockhopper This species of penguin occurs in subantarctic waters of the western Pacific and Indian Oceans, as well as around the southern coasts of South America. The Southern Rockhopper Penguin is classified as Vulnerable species by the IUCN. Its population has declined by about one-third in the last thirty years. Their common name refers to the fact that unlike many other penguins which negotiate obstacles by sliding on their bellies or by awkward climbing using their flipper-like wings as aid, Rockhoppers will try to jump over boulders and across cracks.

Several months ago I was commissioned to do another cover for Conscious Living magazine here in Australia. The theme was to focus on “wild” and in particular….HORSES! / My first thoughts turned to a good friend and talented photographer here on Redbubble – Gene Praag who regularly captures amazing images of the wild horses in his home state of Utah. / And so I asked this fellow bubbler would he be able to help me with REAL wild horse images to work with, as opposed to me taking shots of local domestic horses and pretending they were “wild”. / From this collaboration I generated several pieces of art, and had loads of fun, and I have to say, both Gene and I were surprised at the magazine’s final choice of one of the less artistic images for their cover this issue….. (and yes, before anyone comments, I reckon Equus is spelled differently…lol) so I decided to share with you, one of the other images created from our joint efforts. SO thank you most sincerely to Gene for his generosity and kindness and for being so helpful in this project…... if you haven’t already done so, please take a moment to check out his amazing portfolio of images featuring the wild horses of the USA captured in their natural habitat, and being …... wild and free….. along with many other beautiful landscapes and subjects….. Photo taken from the bridge (deck 6) of our trusty little ship Polar Pioneer while crossing Drakes Passage. It was taken one handed as I held on for grim death with the other, lol. The ship was built as an ice breaker, as a result it has a much more rounded hull and NO stabilisers. During the first 24 hours of the crossing we had constant 8 meter seas coming at a 45 degree angle on the port beam. During the second 24 hours nothing much had changed except the seas had increased to 10+ meters.
