Sydney is not only blessed by a beautiful coastline providing us with countless beaches, but also some of these beaches have a “rock pool” at the headland. These rock pools provide a great place for the locals to take a dip in the ocean without the waves. During Spring for a few weeks you get this really intense green weed hitting the Sydney coast line…. I loved the contrast and textures of the green weed against the blur of a long exposure (30sec +) of the ocean and a nice dramatic sky.

A bit of sunrise light over the West Maui Mountains and Lanai and a powerful sea ebbing and flowing over the rugged lava rock off the coast of Kihei. The way the ocean seemed to fold before me as I stood on rock had me in awe of the beauty of nature

Last Sunday I wend down to Sculpture By The Sea at Bondi Beach. The sky was amazing. It rained all the way down in the car (at 5am) then stopped as I parked. The clouds threatened rain for the 90 min I was taking photos, but then just as I was getting ready to go, a window opened up in the clouds and beautiful golden light streamed over the sculptures. The dark threatening clouds made the perfect backdrop. This image is a 3 shot HDR image. I printed this image up and it looks great in my hall… It has become one of my favorites.

Dawn at Garie Beach, Royal National Park just south of Sydney, Australia. A seagull very obligingly flew into shot as I was taking this. Can you spot the silhouetted fishermen? / I’m lucky enough to live in one of the most beautiful landscapes I’ve ever seen – it’s only a little national park (14,000 ha) but the variety of stuff to photograph is simply endlessly inspiring. We’re expecting our first bub. I had an idea to use toys we’ve bought for him in landscapes and hang them in his nursery. / This is my first one, and I want to do a couple more. / I just kinda liked the idea of him playing with the actual toys that are in the pics hanging on his walls. / Got some odd looks from dawn joggers though. / Taken in Sandgate, Brisbane Qld. Australia.

This is Tanah Lot Temple in Bali, the tide is currently out. When the tide is in the ocean surrounds the temple like an island. I used a torch to highlight the water when I shot this giving a certain glow. This is one image shot in raw, reproduced 3 versions in lightroom… a light, mid and a dark tone. then combined in photoshop

Sunrise at Kingscote Kangaroo Island, over jetty remains along the foreshore. Nature, the waves and weather slowly eroding the last reminders of days past. The site can be located opposite the Hospital heading towards Reeves Point at Kingscote. HDR using photomatix. Canon 400D with polarising filter.

Surfing just before dawn. The water color comes from the dawn light reflecting off high clouds in the sky. Canon 1Ds Mark II / 600 mm focal length / 1/15 second / f/4 / ISO 50 Panning and trying to keep the surfer in one spot in the frame produces the fluidity and quality to the water.

I dragged this little table into the water at Shorncliffe and sat an old picture frame on it as a storm came across the bay at dawn. / I took an 80 sec bulb exposure @ f16 and when I processed it I put the picture ‘into’ the frame and then again into the smaller frame within that etc… /

This little gem can be found just around the corner from Loch Ard Gorge near Port Campbell off Victoria’s Great Ocean Road, Australia. I came here the afternoon before and there were snap happy tourists everywhere but decided to come back the next morning and there wasn’t a soul in sight, just the crashing ocean to keep me company… Unfortunately as of early June 2009 this archway has collapsed leaving two apostles next to eachother. Couldn’t resist another visit to Bell’s Beach at dawn this morning to have another crack at the huge surf – and I wasn’t disappointed! It was still powering away. / No HDR tweaking – just some levels adjustment and slight colour correction. Mother Nature did the rest. / Nikon D300 with 70-200 1:2.8G lens and 1.7x extender. /
