... but for how long? Our wild horses are at the center of tremendous controversy, as the government agency whose purpose is to protect the herds, announced that they have run out of funds for maintaining more than 33,000 captive horses—and one “solution” was mass “euthanasia”. Recently, the BLM proposed eliminating eleven wild horse areas from the Ely, NV District. All 620 horses in this area would be permanently removed from their natural environment, purportedly blamed for “environmental damage”. Indian Paintbrush are among the first of the wildflowers to bloom in our high arid mountains—and the last to remain in autumn. They range in color from deep sanguine red to bright yellow, and I have seen white ones once or twice in my lifetime. I was driving back from UT on highway 93. I noticed the smoke over Eagan Range from a huge distance. I almost reached McGill and the sun was pretty low above the crest. A dark cloud has covered the sun. Suddenly the sun found an opening in the black cloud. At the time smoke was highlighted by the rays of the sun and look colorful, not so depressing and dramatic at all. Yes, even nice. So I’ve immediately I pulled off (it’s rural NV, almost no traffic) and made a few shots. In fact, a whole mountainside close to Heusseur peak turned to ash. I love symbolism so I try to make finding out of everything. What is your finding here?
It was June 12th, 2005. I was hiking on Eagan Range in eastern Nevada. The day was sunny with a few white-yellowish cloudlets in the blue sky. That was a time when the snow rapidly thaws. In fact, the southern slopes were snowless already, but northern side was still covered with snow. At some shadowy places the thickness of snow was up to 5 ft. However, even northern slope has a big snowless spots. I was lucky to find a nice snag protruding just above the snow cover. I delighted in beautiful shape and texture. The color also was lovely. Moreover, the sun lighted snow made a beautiful contrasting background. It was nothing but a natural piece of abstract art. I hope you will enjoy the picture. Thanks for stopping by. :)
It’s a wonderful time when summer approaches to Eastern Nevada. There are still snow high in the mountains, however, it melts rapidly in the day and freezes at night. This capture has been taken on July 12, 2007. The snow was in perfect condition to pegging foot in. Then I used the same footmark on my way back and took this shot. It was not dangerous. It’s just an illusion of that. A few steps were like that only. You would laugh if you see the whole picture. But the view was really beautiful. I liked this composition too. Nevada… Arvy was here, but Kilroy didn’t! Nevada is a fairyland that sounds like a glorious music to my ear.
The first rays of sun softly gilded tops of bare aspens and the summit of Wheeler (people of the Shoshone tribe called it Biap, i.e. the huge) peak. The latter summit and Jeff Davis (on the left) peak were my target on that sunny early October day. I won’t tell you about my third target here. The day was successful. Indeed, very successful!
One sunny day of the golden fall I was exploring the GBNP. I noticed two beauties among the aspens adorned in their gilded cloaks. The mule deere also noticed me. They posed for a moment and evanesced among the trees.
This image is dedicated to my dear friend Arla who sparkled my memory with her beautiful capture Mountain Meadow Lupine. Here Heavenly Father smiles to you, Arla. Eagan Range is behind that forage-cap shaped hill. Cherry Creek is further to the right. (Arla knows that. This information is for other readers of this.) This image has been captured in Kalamazoo Recreation Area, Schell Creek Range, Eastern Nevada.
I throw out another image of sunset over the same forage-cap shaped hill. This image as the previous one is also dedicated to my dear friend Arla who sparkled my memory with her beautiful capture Mountain Meadow Lupine. Here Heavenly Father fires up your heart, Arla. Blessed spirits always land high above our troubles. “Pray the Lord a struggle starts inside you for a soul matures in battlefield only.” (Thomas Merton “The wisdom of the desert”) This is dedicated to my dear friend Pol along with my best wishes. The capture has been taken on East Humboldt Range in northeastern Nevada. Enjoy!
Fall in NV comes quietly gilding aspens, other trees, and brushes along its way. This capture has been taken in Eastern NV on the slopes of North Schell Creek Range. Ah, Nevada!
We all know how usually the night approaches. But did you ever see how it comes vestured in its glory? By the Creator’s will, fiery horse pulls it behind galloping valleys westward and jumping over mountain ranges on his way. Good night Nevada, good night! Those who don’t believe in miracles will never see them…
This capture has been made looking westward from Schell Creek range. Then processed in PS. “For many people, Nevada is no more than either the nation’s desert dumping ground or a hedonistic center of gambling and entertainment.
