My husband Charlie was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease last year. He is an active and exceptionally creative artist who has his Masters in Art History. He worked as an event planner setting up large events for weddings, charity events and the governor’s ball for the Oscars. One of the most exciting events he did was a charity event to raise money for the preservation of the rain forest, a passionate commitment by Sting who performed for an intimate group that was tented and decorated as a rain forest. The proceeds from this event contributed several million dollars to restore the damage done to the ecosystem in Peru’s rainforests. He has done some extraordinary events like the annual walk of fame honoring an artist and pioneer in courtier fashion on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. The last event honored Salvatore Ferragamo, the brilliant Italian Shoe Designer for men and women. I was fortunate to take photos of the event and will upload some wonderful images including his innovative designs and creation of the stiletto heel made famous by Marilyn Monroe. Due to the rapid progression of this debilitating disease, Charlie could no longer work and instead of becoming a victim, he found an opportunity in crisis when confronting the reality of this progressive disease and the impact on quality of life. A new door opened and he discovered his passion for the fabric arts creating stunning duvets, quilts, shams, pillows and clothing. Our dogs Molly and Mikey are very attached to us and are important members of our family. Molly is a gorgeous and loving red and white Irish Setter. Charlie and I both suffer from health issues and when we are sick or in severe pain Molly “Nightingale” senses this immediately and moves her body close enough to soothe Charlie, puts her head on his chest or as you can see in this moving photograph, Molly has placed her head looking upward to soothe the painful symptoms of this neurogenerative disease. She is the best medicine with her soft fur and infinite love and devotion. She never strays from Charlie when he has a very difficult day dealing with the symptoms of PD and the side effects of the medications. Our precious Molly will spend as many hours as needed lying quietly to provide the best therapy available for anyone in pain, her unconditional love and soothing spirit. To get the full impact of this touching photograph, please view it in the larger format. /
Molly, our midnight nurse kitty. She wakes up her Dad by tugging on his beard if he has nightmares, if his blood-glucose goes high or low in his sleep, or if his pain has gone so high he needs to wake up and take another pill. Molly is a beautiful little brown tabby.
This is an amazing statue… a memorial of service in times of war. Not real sure about who is the original artist. Will be adding another couple of shots when they are ready.
This is the trauma room of my hospital, a place I am heading off to shortly, a room I hope none of you ever have the privilege to visit. A room that has good outcomes and at times not so good outcomes. It is a room that has a highly skilled and trained medical staff that treats those that enter this room to best of their ability. It is a room that has seen many tears, and also a few miracles. It is a room where Angels spend a lot of time looking over our shoulders, and God makes a lot of decisions on the outcome. Tonight as I head off to work I will take with me this nurses prayer: As I Care As I care for my patients today, / Be with me, O Lord I pray / Make my words kind / -it means so much- / And in my hands / place Your healing touch / Let your love shine / through all that I do, / So those in need / may hear and feel You. :: Author Unknown

The Geelong Hospital, a place of healing.
They even had a German field hospital set up with Doctor and Nurses at the village of Le Visham (Levisham) for the NYM Railway War Weekend.

In case you didn’t know, I love Australia, I love our flag, our National Anthem and I love War Memorials that remember the men and women who fought to make this country the lucky one we live in today…one of the best ones around is in Far Nth Queensland and if you come up this way be sure to stop in to Rocky Creek War Memorial Park on the Kennedy Highway, just outside Tolga, Far Nth Queensland. Situated in eucalypt bushland it is a classic Australian setting. Initiated by Mrs Myra Jones, Atherton Shire Council thought it was a wonderful idea and created the Rocky Creek memorial. This one is a bit different to many others because this was the main Australian War Hospital of World War 2 and soldiers were shipped back to far North Queensland where they were taken to Rocky Creek Medical Hospital. Our very own M.A.S.H unit was right here at Rocky Creek. The hospital covered a huge area and over 60,000 patients were treated here between 1943 and 1945. During this time the Atherton Tablelands was the largest Military Base in Australia. The Military Museum further along to Mareeba is incredible too, set up in an old aircraft hangar…at Rocky Creek there is a hangar too but it’s on the other side of the road and I didn’t go over to it today, save that for next time… Victory In The Pacific Day was on 15th August 1945 and this park opened on 15th August 1995 celebrating 50 years of Peace In The Pacific. There is over 100 large rocks with plaques dedicated to all manner of infantry and soldiers, causes and departed friends left behind overseas, a real tear jerker actually… So here I will show you the first of some photos of Rocky Creek War Memorial Park dedicated to the Hospital that was stationed there..this poem had been written by a local in memory of the whole feeling the park creates, I layered it over another old photo there of the soldiers recuperating and you can see the tents behind them…so you can get a feel for it…
Molly is Kelly’s ‘Nurse kitty’, the one who checks sugar-levels on his breath, wakes him out of bad dreams, and monitors his over-all health. She works the night-shift so I can sleep. Here, she’s tucked her bum up to the heater. She’s not happy unless she’s roasting hot. Oh, and it’s true- some cats do sleep with one eye open! This photo has been Photoshopped, in Photoshop, no less! I applied a Black & White filter, painted in nose and one one open eye, / and them did something odd to the pic that made it look like a watercolor. That was 30 min ago, can’t remember what.
