  • This painting shows how different forms or ideas or styles of music grow in a soul of art and how they echo in the space of one individual’s consciousness. However, I believe the roots of music have a never ending growth and the strength to influence hearts and make them move. Oil on canvas.

  • Any idea what I’ve shot here? And here’s another challenge …. how many numerals can you spot in this image? I can see 17 in conventional numerals but there are many more if you count the Roman numerals as well. It’s a Melbourne tram! This was shot on Wednesday evening, in tricky light after sunset. I saw the tram approaching and I suddenly noticed it was painted as a mobile billboard advertising the popular Pompeii exhibition at the Melbourne Museum. Luckily I had my long lens on, because I needed a clear shot. Instead, I had to wait for several seconds as I panned the tram while all sorts of visual interruptions went past – cars, vans, motorcycles, cyclists and even a skateboarder on the pavement right in front of me (who almost knocked my camera out of my hand). The tram was well past me when I eventually got the chance for just one shot. Interestingly enough, it would have been a much more difficult shot in such poor light if the tram had been a lighter colour. In a case of lucky positioning, you can actually see two of the subsidiary domes of Flinders Street Station on the left. And the lighting inside the tram means you can actually see glimpses of the interior – including the face of one seated passenger at the letter “M”. I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 70-300m lens. F5.6, 1/90 sec, ISO 400, focal length 70mm. Featured in BITS AND PIECES, September 2009. 118-0039
