In 1992, I walked all the way to the end of Conjola Beach, on a balmy, warm summer’s day and rested near the next headland. Way in the distance, a couple stripped off and ran into the surf. The urge to skinny-dip and cool off was easily fixed. After that I joined the ANF Supporters Group and then member and then vice president of the (now defunct) Free Beach Association of NSW and currently look after the website of a clothes-optional retreat. / The current painting that I am working on is based on a photo taken down in the valley, beside the Wollondilly River and on a photo, taken on the way to the retreat. / I see many pictures here, called The Nude and 99% of the time, that is an attractive woman, in a place where she would, most likely not normally be nude. / Dragoncat# raised the topic of the acceptability of nudity, here on RedBubble. / He mentioned having drawn nude people in art classes, as I did too, in the Old East Sydney Tech, in the early 70s, where the model posed on a platform, trying to keep warm near a small radiator. / One of the teachers there, in another class had given me a hard time because the painting I had done showed that I had little idea of the anatomy underneath the clothes. / Since 1992, I have a better understanding. Nudity in appropriate locations is what I very much support, under the shower, in the bath and in places where it is legal and everyone there is comfortable with it. / I dislike the way journalists go and visit naturist resorts and carry on about the ‘looks of people. And the way older people are chided for being naturists.

Reading: Nudism: A Healthier Lifestyle or a Bunch of Hype? by Nicole McClelland, a vistor from the USA, to Queensland, made me want to put the case against. (It’s not all hype!)

It was the start of a life-time’s interest. / / Posing for the newspaper, in the original photo.
