This spectacular coastal scene was a merely 100m from my bed for about 5months – Many times I ventured out early and late to watch and attempt to photograph it how I would best remember it – I hope in years to come this photograph will do it justice… see more photographic works from North Qld. / Nth Qld
Twice a day as the tides receed nature’s tidal artwork is unveiled – and what an exhibition it can be ! At glance it may be missed…but with a keener eye patterns emerge..sometimes contoured, other times smooth. Only can nature make such pieces of work that define true beauty on a seemingly endless scale. / / / Canon EOS A2, Fuji Velvia 50. / ©T.Middleton2007 —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—— / / / see more of my photography from Nth Qld below / / /
Fitzroy Island is a half hour ferry ride from Cairns, Far North Queensland. This is another beautiful vista on the lighthouse trail to the top of the island. The weather is usually warm, but the breeze is cool and it isn’t as humid as it would be on the mainland. Only a small part of the island has been cleared for a resort. The rest is a natural playground with trails leading around to deserted beaches and giant boulders to lay on, after hours of snorkelling, where you may catch a glimpse of a turtle early in the morning or a giant ray resting in the sand any time of day in addition to the colourful tropical fish.
Heart Reef © Vicki Ferrari A scan of an original print, taken using a Minolta SLR, back in the early 1990’s. / Heart Reef is located north of Hamilton Island, on the Great Barrier Reef, in North Queensland, Australia. It was named Heart Reef because, and obviously, it looks like a heart! / This photograph was taken from one of my regular chopper rides up on the island. I never got sick of flying in choppers, or seeing the amazing reef from the air! When you are at the Whitsundays, well worth visiting the Reef by helicopter! The view is amazing! I know – it looks blue but that is another lake
Another view of Green Island….. From ‘I Visited A Tropical Island Today’: / Pretty lucky was I, today Tuesday 15th September I joined my 10 year old daughter Alex on a class excursion day out to The Great Barrier Reef! Cool day trip I must say…we also went to the Outer Reef and snorkelled. / Firstly we headed off out from Cairns after having to get up at 4.30am and leave Ravenshoe to get there in time for the boat. This is Green Island on arrival from a distance. The sea is the Coral Sea. It is a very small island only 29 acres and is the only coral cay on the Great Barrier Reef with a rainforest. But you know I’m not going to go on about how wonderful Green Island is itself because I found something at Green Island today that went inside my soul and worth more to me to talk about than the whole Great Barrier Reef so I will share with you soon a special story that I found today on Green Island while enjoying the beautiful Far North Queensland sunshine and snorkelling among the reef fish with my daughter…
