  • Disused church

  • March 2008 I’d pulled in to capture a picture of the Cooling Towers at the Ratcliffe-On-Soar Power Station in Nottinghamshire but on the walk from the car I just couldn’t believe the sky I saw on the way past this field. Taken with a Nikon D40 and Nikon 18-55mm lens at 18mm

  • March 2008 I’ve been after a shot of these cooling towers at Ratcliffe-On-Soar, Nottinghamshire for a number of years now, and had the good fortune on the way back from the RBUK meet up to be travelling past with the camera in the car. Fortunately the weather was excellent too and I couldn’t have wished for a better sky at that time of the day. Photographs from Nottinghamshire

  • Bridge across the river at Clumber Park Nottinghamshire

  • March 2008 I’d pulled in to capture a picture of the Cooling Towers at the Ratcliffe-On-Soar Power Station in Nottinghamshire but on the walk from the car I just couldn’t believe the sky I saw on the way past this field. The clouds really were that shape. Taken on Nikon D40, 18-55mm Nikon lens at 18mm.

  • Best Viewed Full Size. / Miner’s statue on county horizon / / A Nottinghamshire ‘miner’ looks down over the county. / A £50,000 bronze statue of a miner was put up at the highest point in Nottinghamshire in March 2004 as a memorial to 150 years of mining in the county. / The sculpture of a miner holding a Davey lamp will stand at Silver Wood near Teversal. The tribute to the coal industry is set on a stone base bearing a plaque listing all the county’s collieries and the years when they opened and closed. Sculptor Antony Dufort’s work includes the ‘Bowler’ at Lord’s Cricket Club. With Silverhill being the highest point in Notts, it was decided this would be the best site to have the statue looking out across all of the Nottinghamshire coalfields & would commemorate nearly 150 years of mining across the county.

  • This is the wonderful castle where I live. Newark Castle in Nottinghamshire, England has such history, and played a key role in the English Civil War. I encourage everyone to explore the history of it. You will be seeing more of this castle. This was taken in the evening just before sunset. The light of the setting sun seems to bring the stones alive. Please view it large to get the full effect of the scene.

  • This was taken not too far from where I live, in the village of Drydoddington. The open countryside is so beautiful and allows you great opportunity for wonderful spacious views. I love the colours so much. This lone tree stands to face the mornings light. Hope you enjoy it. HP PhotoSmart C945 bridge camera, f/4.8, shutter 1/1500, ISO 100

  • There is a great rural road that I like to travel that goes between our town and Mansfield in Nottinghamshire. All along the stretch of road you can see golden fields of wheat, and wonderful trees that glow with colour in the autumn. I stopped to take this sometime back to be used in the schools I work in, and during the Harvest service at our church. Autumn time and harvest is my favorite time of the year. Fuji FinePix S5600 bridge camera, f/5.6, shutter 1/400

  • Early one morning, I was making my way to Nottingham for a meeting, leaving early to beat the traffic. As I drove I noticed these storm clouds moving in. With the sun rising and the clouds coming that way, I was amazed at the abstract cloud formations and had to stop and take this shot. I had my digital camera (my very first one mind you) and set it on manual and started taking shot having pulled off the side of the road. There were a fews cars trying to distract me with honking horns, but I paid no attention. I did manage to get to my meeting in plenty of time, so it was a successful day all around. This photo is ‘as is’ straight from the camera These were the way the clouds looked. Pretty amazing I think. / / • HP PhotoSmart C850 bridge camera / • f/3.0 / • 1/250 / • ISO 200

  • I have always been enamoured with the brightly lit phone box in the small Nottinghamshire village of Upton, and recently decided to photograph it after dusk. I was very pleased with the results, getting the shots I had wanted to take for so long. Just before leaving however, I wondered what the phone box looked like up close. I took a few shots of the inside, covered in cobwebs. I guess it hasn’t been used in a long time, but it still stands as an icon of British life and history. Canon EOS-1Ds Mark ll / 45mm TS-E lens (Tilt-Shift) / f/3.2 / 1/8 / ISO 400

  • This was taken one morning looking to Newark Castle, Nottinghamshire, in England. There was a storm settling in over the town and this was taken just about an hour before. I love the silhouetted castle up against the imposing sky filled with angry clouds. HP PhotoSmart C945 Bridge camera / f/8.0 / 1/125 / ISO 100 / Orton effect applied in Photoshop CS2

  • This is the beautiful village of Fiskerton, Nottinghamshire which has a fascinating railway crossing. The signalman has to come out and physically close the gates to shut off traffic and allow the train to continue its journey through! This is one of the few remaining stations in England that still use this method. I have often thought about stopping to get shots of this. I will probably go again sometime to get more, so you will probably find more shots of this signal box in the future. This is a HDR image bracketing 3 shots. Because of the clouds and the movement, there is a shade of the blue sky that was peeking behind the grey clouds. It does give it a strange effect. What do you all think? Canon EOS-1Ds Mark ll / 28-135mm IS zoom lens / f/29.0 / 1/8, 1/15, 1/60 / ISO 100 / HDR image generated using Photomatix Pro for Mac OS X

  • One evening in my home town of Newark, Nottinghamshire, I was walking around to our church hall, and as I looked back to the main building, I caught sight of this gorgeous sunset with the rays of the setting sun streaming through the windows of the church, giving the appearance of the church being on fire inside. I thought to myself what a great analogy of what the church and christianity should be like… a burning fire inside that drives us, encourages us, empowers us to live publicly and profoundly. What a great narrative on the Christian faith, empowered by the fire of the Holy Spirit. It was John Wesley, founder of the methodist movement who once remarked about about an encounter with God that his, “heart was strangely warmed.” He had a genuine encounter with God’s Spirit. Something that I am very familure with. I have applied an Orton effect on this photo using Photoshop CS 2 HP PhotoSmart 945 bridge camera / f/2.8 / 1/200 / ISO 160

  • Rushes by the river Trent, Nottinghamshire

  • You’re a Dead Man, I’m coming for you now….. / Based on the film ‘Dead Mans Shoes’.

  • Poppies and Daises in a meadow, Derbyshire, England

  • On a recent trip with two of my good friends George and / Ted to Sherwood Pines near where I live, we spent the afternoon enjoying a picnic with our family and friends and going for walks along the paths of this ancient wood. We spent time photographing the lovely scenery and the tiny world that it provides for. Most of our time was taken up with shooting macros of the plants and insects that call this lovely place home. But we did manage to get shots of lovely broken lighted paths like this. We all set about to capture this path in different ways and from different angles. I did take some straight shots which were nice, but didn’t capture the feel or character of the scene. I then decided to photograph this in HDR to capture all the lovely lighting. This is exactly what it was like. My HDR is a success. Thank youto my wonderful friends for such a great day out. Can’t wait to arrange another soon. / / This is a HDR image combining 5 bracketed shots, using Photomatix Pro for Macs. There was no need for any tome adjusting in Tone Mapping. Canon EOS-1Ds Mark ll / 28-300mm IS zoom lens / f/4.5 / 1/1000, 1/400, 1/320, 1/160, 1/100 / ISO 100
