Hello! Another week another RedBubble release. This week there’s a couple of new things – the ability to bulk delete BubbleMail and a sneak preview of a the RedBubble ‘private site’. The private site is designed to allow you to create a site showcasing just your work. The thinking behind the private site is that RedBubble needs to evolve into a much more dynamic website. Everyone wants different things from RedBubble. Some folks are here for the learning, some are here to sell, some are here for the positive feedback, some are here to be entertained. Et cetera. We’re never going to be able to create one static site that satisfies all needs, so over the next little while we’re going to evolve RedBubble into a much more dynamic site that people can tailor and adapt to suit their needs. The private site is still a few weeks away from public release, but we’ve got a very very early beta product ready for today and I’ll like to show you all an example and ask for your feedback. The example site can be found here and I’d particularly value general feedback on the new configuration menu which appears to the right of the large images (the menu is still a work in progress) and the options you’d like to see us offer in the private site as we build it out over the next couple of weeks. And finally we stumbled across this review of RedBubble a couple of days ago. We love these reviews and they’re great for improving the Google rank of RedBubble and all the work on RedBubble. So if you feel like writing about RedBubble please ‘go nuts’. The more links back to RedBubble the better. You might also want to check out all the tools for linking to RedBubble available here. Have a great week! Peter

It’s that time of the week again already, and this week there are two important additions to the site today. Gaia, the book, is now on sale. It looks fantastic, get your copy from the RedBubbble Store. For more information, and a list of those published, please see this post. Even bigger news is that today we have launched a new take on RedBubble’s continued exploration of New Art. We see this art as a move away from art bestowed upon us to art that ultimately embraces all of us as co-equals in its creation and interpretation. The publications ‘In the Moment’ and ‘Gaia’ were part of this exploration. The new work ‘PAX’ is an online Mosaic of 16,384 images from RedBubble artists that aims for a collective beauty that is no greater than any single one of its components. It is an art work that is complete on the Web, fully harnessing the power and potential of this medium in its creation and in its display. Enjoy! - Pilgrim

Hello hello, welcome to another RedBubble Thursday. Here’s an update on what’s been released, what’s coming up and what’s going on: Activity Monitor This is still very much a work in progress, so I probably should give you some background information. We think the Activity Monitor is really important to the future of RedBubble. As the site grows, we think it’s going to be more and more important that content comes to you instead of you having to find the content. This means more types of activity events will be sent to you, which also means you’ll probably want to customize your monitor, focusing on the information you want, and ignoring the stuff you don’t need. So we’ve split the Activity Monitor into two groups: “Favorite Feeds”, which will be shown by default “Other Feeds”, for the stuff that you don’t care about too much, but might want to check out from time to time You can move the feeds between the two groups to find the right balance of information for you. Here’s a quick screen shot: It might seem a little overkill right now, but as we add in more and more feeds, I think it’s going to make a huge difference. We’ll also make it easier to organize the feeds (soon-ish) with drag-n-drop, etc. 2009 Calendars We’ve also rolled out a new 2009 Calendar design (all calendars have been automatically updated). Here’s a preview of the cover, February and the new back cover from one of John’s Calendars calendars : They’re still self-purchase only at this stage (which means they can’t be purchased by the general public), but we’ll try and get to that really soon! Pete says “if we sell more than a hundred in June, I’ll buy John a beer”. We think this should be extended to all staff and apply to each batch of 100 calendars, so please, go and buy lots of calendars to keep us all well-hydrated! The Bubble Sites Beta Continues We’ll be inviting a few more testers today, and we’ve made some improvements to the product menu design: The Challenges Beta Continues The Challenge Café Group have been helping us beta test the new challenges interface. It’s going really well, and we’ll probably open up the testing to a few more groups in a week or two after we polish some edges. And… Sets Are Coming Soon! I’m usually really nervous about pre-announcing features, but the #1 feature request right now is sets—the ability to organize or group your work into smaller ‘sets’ or ‘collections’ or ‘folders’ or something. This has been amplified even more now that we’re beta testing the new Bubblesites. We’re still at least a month (or even two) away from releasing them, but I wanted to let you all know that we’re listening, working on it, and really want to get them out ASAP. Etc There’s also the usual swag of bug fixes, tweaks and little things that I’ll let you discover for yourselves! — Justin & all these wonderful people

Hello hello! We’ve just rolled out this weeks release, the highlights include: A real credit card system / You can now pay for stuff with a credit card without having to use PayPal—you can do it all without leaving RedBubble. Previously, this was only available as an option for orders in Australian dollars. PayPal is still an option, of course. Clear GIFs over the larger images / By popular demand! If you really want to discourage people from downloading the larger versions of your images, there’s an option in your profile to do so. Please understand it’s impossible to prevent downloading of images displayed on web pages (they can still do a screen capture, for example), but activitating this feature will make it more difficult. Interesting nerdy sidenote: GIF is pronounced “JIFF”. The pre-loading images experiment / After the main art & clothing gallery pages load, we’re pre-loading the images for the next page in the background, so that when you click “next” the page should load much faster for most people. It’s an experiment, but it seems to be working really well so far. The activity footer experiment / In another experiment, we’re putting the two most recent activity events down above the footer. The theory is that users might accidentally discover new stuff that they may not have found any other way, and we’ll see how that goes. Featured and recent work in the group home pages / We’re showing two rows of both now, instead of one or the other. Also / There’s the usual bug fixes, tweaks, etc. We know we’re a little behind on launching of new groups that have been proposed—please be patient! Enjoy! — Justin & Co

This week has been a relatively short one in RedBubble land due to a public holiday, and various staff out of the office. However we still have a few new things now up on the site. The old ‘overview’ page in mybubble is now gone, and replaced with the new-look activity monitor. We have added some new activity types here from the ongoing challenges beta which will help you stay on top of what challenges are happening within your groups. The list of all your groups can still be found via the groups tab in ‘mybubble’. The challenges beta has been expanded to more groups. Challenges can now be found in Challenge Cafe, Painters in Modern Times, Melbourne & Victoria, / Promote Each Other, A Photographer’s Craft, and Short Stories. Also a reminder from last week that calendars have all now been updated to a new 2009 design. So if you haven’t already, you can get cracking and make some new funky calendars from your art in mybubble/calendars. - John

Hello hello! I’m very excited to announce the following features we just rolled out, thanks to the hard work of our wonderful team of fine people. Drum roll please… Sales history You asked for it, we gave it to you (eventually!). Artists now have access to a nice table of every sale you’ve made, when, etc. At this stage it’s only a sales history and doesn’t include the payments we’ve sent you yet, but it will. You can access this by going to MyBubble > Account and clicking on “view all your sales” from the menu on the left, or click this link if you’re logged in. Group leaders & finer control over group upload limits As previously discussed, we’ve made group owners and group moderators the same thing, with the same powers, and we’re now calling these wonderful people leaders instead of moderators. We’ve also added finer control of the group limits. For each type of work we have (writing, clothing, image and journal) the group leaders can set the limit to “none”, “some” (a number) or “unlimited”. Username recovery If you forget your username (or password) it’s really easy to figure it all out simply by typing in your email address. It’s all linked up from the login screen if you ever need it. If nothing else, it should make Hop’s life a whole lot easier answering support questions! Oh, and that paragraph bug You know how everyone puts periods and other characters in their work descriptions to force paragraphs and blank lines on the main work screen? No more! It was a tiny bug, and everything should be fine now. Please feel free to update all your descriptions to make the site 2% more pleasant to look at! Et cetera There’s also the usual bugs, tweaks, massages and little things we’ll let you find for yourselves too. Keep an eye out for an In The Moment update in the next day or so. — Justin

Did you know there are 1.6 million inventions under active patent in the United States? / Did you know RedBubble makes you smarter? This week on the bubble we’ve made a few tweaks to mybubble, adding back in some of the links that went missing when we lost the overview page and generally making it a bit friendlier. If you’re participating in any of the beta challenges you’ll notice some more changes – the biggest of which is that there is now separate entry and voting periods to make things a bit fairer. Justin has been working hard this week figuring out a final end point for challenges so that hopefully we’ll be able to release them site wide soon. And in case you missed it earlier in the week, there’s now a pretty T-Shirt Mosaic that looks like an iron for you to play with. In fact I might go and do just that now. - Xavier

Hello Bubbleers, we’re all back at work finally (even if some of us forgot we were supposed to be taking a break!), and we’ve just pushed out the latest release. Ben had the worst job this week for sure, spending most of the week fixing a heap of display bugs in IE6! Behind the scenes we’re digging our way through a revamped community overview page, redesigned activity email, the new search engine and putting the limited edition organic tee on sale. What I can show you is a sneak peek at what the new activity email is going to look like: — Justin (& every one else)

Whew! That was a long downtime, sorry for taking so long… Hello Bubbleologists! I’m pleased to announce that we’ve just rolled out our weekly(-ish) release which contains many wonderful things, including… Featuring Work and People in Groups, Redesign, etc We’re mid-way through some redesign and re-structuring of groups. One of the things we were really keen to release was hosts featuring work from their group. It’s a mixture of art/writing/clothing (to keep things simple) and as hosts start featuring work in your groups, the group home pages will start showing the featured work. This led to a mini-redesign of the group navigation, page layouts, etc. We’re not done, but we think it’s a great start. Hosts: Start featuring work from your group, and we’ll probably post some more info in the hosts forum soon. Search Redesign The search screens have been redesigned to make them a bit easier to use, and a bit better for search engines to index your lovely content. VAT As announced a little way back, we’re now charging VAT on all orders being shipped to addresses in the UK. Those pesky bought/sold things We’ve removed the “bought work” and “sold work” things off everyone’s profile. They caused a whole lot of extra load on the servers, so the simplest thing to do was remove them. But if you guys really miss them, we’ll find a way to bring them back without crushing the servers—let us know what you think. More Red Dots We’ve started handing out a few more of those little red dots to people in the community, recognizing their contribution as volunteers. The first to be “dotted” are Colin Tobin and Imogene Munday, but we have a few more on the list to contact over the next few days, including kseriphn, Martin Pot, Anne van Alkemade, Kathleen, Damien Mason and Faizan Qureshi. Thank you! Etc That’s about it this week, with the usual bug fixes and miscellany. For those of you wondering if you just missed an entire day of your life, no, we’re just releasing on Wednesday instead of Thursday this week because of a public holiday in Melbourne soon. Also, check out Stiched 9.9 from the Ministry of T-Shirts too! — Justin on behalf of many other people

Hello! We’ve been busily chipping away on a bunch of big stuff (like a new search engine, UPS integration, order tracking and the new products), but there’s also some goodies that you can play with today! Here’s the highlights: V-Neck Tees Just like the long-sleeve tees we released a few weeks back, we’ve automatically made every tee design available as a V-neck. They’re the same sizing as our unisex short-sleeve tees, which means they suit both guys and girls, they’re available in most colors and all sizes except 2XL & 3XL (sorry, they don’t make ‘em). We’re showing them on a girl, but they suit guys too (we had to choose one or the other for now). Because of the lower neck line, the designs are pushed further down the garment, which means not every design will look perfect, but we’re working on that (aren’t we always?). I absolutely love the Fireworks design by anartistic, and here it is on a v-neck. More in depth, exciting tee related news, complete with ‘hilarious’ pictures, can be found here Reusable Frames We’ve made the buying interface for the reusable frames a bit better (we ran out of time last week), and we subtly suggest that people with a matted print in their cart might also want to buy a frame. Etc As usual, there’s heap of bug fixes and other little tweaks for you to discover for yourself. Next? I’d love to say next week is going to be more exciting, but we need to keep chipping away at the bugs and bigger / more difficult stuff first, so that we can get to the exciting new products and gadgets. I’m sure you understand… — Justin
