  • Montenegran woman with one of her cats. I was staying in her house in the little village of Perast, and I think there were at least seven cats living with her, perhaps more! In the village itself there were hundreds, but I only saw one dog!

  • IF you can keep your head / When all about you are losing theirs / And blaming it on you. / IF you can trust yourself / When all men doubt you / But make allowance for their doubting too. / IF you can dream and not make dreams your master. / IF you can think and not make thoughts your aim. / IF you can meet with triumph and disaster. / And treat those two impostors just the same. / IF you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken / Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools / Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken / And stoop and build’em up with worn out tools. / IF you can make one heap of all your winnings / And risk it on one turn of pitch and toss / And lose, and start again at your beginnings / And never breathe a word about your loss. / IF you can force your heart, and nerve, and sinew / To serve your turn long after they are gone / And so “hold on” when there is nothing on you / Except the will which says to them “hold on!” / IF you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue / Or walk with kings, nor lose the common touch. / IF neither foe nor loving friend can hurt you. / IF all men count with you … but none too much. / IF you can fill the unforgiving minute / With sixty seconds worth of distant run. / Yours is the earth, and everything that’s in it. / And which is more … You’ll be a Man, My Son. / by Rudyard Kippling Inks, enamel, pigment and metallic leaf – Image best viewed in large format

  • The psyche does not come to an end where some physiological assumption or other stops. In other words, in each individual case that we observe scientifically, we have to consider the manifestations of the psyche in their totality. Carl Jung, Collected Works, v9, para 113 This painting I dedicate to Carl Jung who inspires me daily. Wax, graphite and watercolour

  • In Mesopotamian myth, life arose from the mingling of Apsu, the sweet waters on which the earth floated, and the salt waters, personified by the chaos – goddess Tiamat who gave birth to all things and whose destruction led to the organized world. The sea is a maternal image and implies transformation and rebirth. It is also a symbol of infinite wisdom, and in psychology, of the unconscious. / Wax, acrylics, pigment and metallic leaf

  • Got lucky and found a Billy Holiday recording of What A Liittle Moonlight Can Do on You Tube.. While I was working on this piece.. Billy still is wanting some play.. So here she is with my piece that I shot in San Francisco down by the Embarcadero Center..

  • Lilith still reigns as a symbol of independent, life-loving, justice-seeking women who have been depicted in art, history and literature as sexual predators, demons, evil spirits and harlots. She may have been considered both warrior and seductress; I view neither of these as negatives. If she is shown as one who tricked men, I believe it was to teach them lessons; if she was blamed for inciting their lust, so have all women taken the blame for male desire in a world where sexuality is held sinful. / If we are to believe she kills mortals, can we not view her as we do the male god, as one who ‘giveth and taketh away’, who ends human life as He, divine ruler, deems necessary, or simply to maintain the balance of the Universe? Why do the qualities we admire in a male god make so little sense to us when embodied by a female deity that we demonize her? Why are they so threatening? Written by Deborah Grenn-Scott, M.A., Women’s Spirituality, is founder and director of The Lilith Institute. Painting using acrylics, pigment and gold leaf / 100×42 cm / Music / Metamorphosis One – Philip Glass 13th September 2008

  • Paint your palette blue and grey / Look out on a summer’s day / With eyes that know the darkness in my soul Shadows on the hills Sketch the trees and the daffodils / Catch the breeze and the winter chills / In colours on the snowy linen land Now I understand / What you tried to say to me / And how you suffered for your sanity / And how you tried to set them free / They would not listen they did not know how / Perhaps they’ll listen now. Starry starry night Flaming flowers that brightly blaze / Swirling clouds in violet haze / Reflect in Vincent’s eyes of china blue / Colours changing hue / Morning fields of amber grain / Weathered faces lined in pain / Are soothed beneath the artist’s LOVING hand Now I understand / What you tried to say to me / And how you suffered for your sanity / And how you tried to set them free / They would not listen they did not know how / Perhaps they’ll listen now For they could not love you / But still your love was true / And when no hope was left inside / On that starry starry night You took your life as lover’s often do But I could have told you, / Vincent, / This world was never meant for one as beautiful as you Starry starry night Portraits hung in empty halls / Frameless heads on nameless walls / With eyes that watch the world and can’t forget / Like the strangers that you’ve met The ragged men in ragged clothes / A silver thorn / A bloody rose / Lie crushed and broken on the virgin snow / Now I think I know / What you tried to say to me / And how you suffered for your sanity / And how you tried to set them free / They would not listen / They’re not listening still Perhaps they never will – Words by Don McLean Music – Art of Noise – On Being Blue / For Vincent Painting in acrylics, inks, pigment, chalk and graphite / 100×42 cm on paper

  • This is part of my clendar Virtues Understanding / Understanding is using your mind to think clearly, paying careful attention to see the meaning of things. An understanding mind gives you insights and wonderful ideas. An understanding heart gives you empathy and compassion for others. Understanding is the power to think and learn and also to care. I wondered thru this Garden. / Upon a chance, next to the entrance, / I found a creature so different, / a creature so small and strange. / I thought it must be, unlike me, insignificant. / Then I saw it rising into the air, / Like my shadow I began to chase. / As it passed through the garden it / touched each face bringing a radiance. / Then I understood I too shared this gift / and we were not so different.

  • When I saw this prayer, written by an unknown author, at the Carmelite monastery where I do volunteer work, I knew I had to incorporate it into an image and offer its consoling words to those who are suffering from Alzheimer’s as well as to family, friends, and medical personnel who care for those afflicted with this disease. I chose an image of a cloud-filled sky as the sun was setting because those with Alzheimer’s are largely in the sunset of their lives and have to contend with many issues that cloud their lives. Prayer for an Alzheimer’s Sufferer Please grant my visitors tolerance for my confusion, / Forgiveness for my irrationality, / and the strength to walk with me / Into the mist of memory my world has become. Please let them take my hand and stay awhile / Even though I seem unaware of their presence. / Help them to know how their strength and loving care / Will drift slowly into the days to come / Just when I need it most. Let them know when I don’t recognize them / that I will . . . I will. / Keep their hearts free from sorrow for me / For my sorrow when it comes only lasts a moment – / then it’s gone. And finally please let them know / how very much their visits mean, / How, even through this relentless mystery, / I can still feel the love. Amen

  • LOVE OPENS UP DOORS THAT WERE ONCE CLOSED On The Shores of Now

  • This is my niece Alanna.. she rocks my world. I have used her in several of my pieces and this one is for me one of my fav shots. She got my 6 inch boots on one day..(I ended up giving them to her) and she floated around my home as I kept shooting. She wants me to manage her career in Hollywood in a couple of years from now as she knows her Auntie L don’t take no bull. She goes to Cornish University in Seattle Wash. and is awarded a big Scholarship for her abilities as an actress. Which for a school like that are far and few between. She knows where I came from and she trusts me. I trust her. i trust her ability to be young and wrong and dream and live and allow life to show her what the next turn is in the road. I have never ever told her she had or she should do anything. I have told her if she asked me how I solve my problems and what I still can’t seem to do very well. But though my relationship with her I feel more of the youth I still have lurking well within this soul. I love teens and young people. I tend to give them more room than my peers in my head as amazing beings, and this is a mistake. For me anyway. I think we are eternal so age really is all in the settling for a thought that one is about done with growth.. / I love one line I have taken from my Abraham work.. / You Ms. Linaji… Are Never Finished and Life Is Never Done!!
