In the moment his hand closed around his weapon, / His mind readied itself for the battle. / Man against the machine.
World Trade Center a few months before 9/11, New York, USA
The Twin Towers WTC in New York City photographed in September 2000. Nothing more needs to be said except that they were iconic and nobody will ever forget the outrage of the following year. I do not support the war on terror as it is happening but this is not the site for political debate. I loved their symmetery and the incredible sense of mans achievement when one simply looked up. The meaning of the word skyscraper multiplied by two. Questions regarding the attacks and our world as we know it. / http://www.zeitgeistmovie.com/main.htm
Ian Rilen was a legendary Sydney rock and roller and a member of bands such as Rose Tattoo, X and Sardine V. He died earlier this year and is much missed for his wild and wonderful ways. I found this candid back stage shot of him and his then wife Stephanie preparing to go onstage at the Trade Union Club in Sydney’s Surry Hills way way back in the early 80’s. They were in Sardine V at that time and when I look at this shot now the eighties rush back. Oh my misspent youth. :) So Vale Ian Rilen, I so hope things are rocking were ever you are. This shot is for you.
This is the second installament for my Old TImers series It brings to light those who have dedicated decades to their chosen occupation, craft or trade, some by choice others through need. A trait which is rapidly diminishing in todays society where people are in constant flux between jobs, careers and hobbies. / This is a salute to the Old Timers! This is Brett, an industrial metal polisher by trade. He has been at it for decades and is well skilled in the art of making metal shine. A real Larrakin at heart but not someone you’d want to get on the wrong side of. An updated bio to come soon… I hope you enjoy! Cheers!
This was done a couple of nights ago whilst on night shift , when we had a spare moment, my colleague Judy help out with lighting and arrangement . This is dedicated to all the nurses and doctors and non clinical staff on Ward 1 at Monash Medical Centre and to medical staff everywhere, the great job they all do – under sometimes difficult circumstances
The lights of The Twin Tower Memorial can be clearly seen in this long exposure on New York’s Brooklyn Bridge. One night each year New Yorks lights the Twin Beams which illuminate the night. The City, excepptional and magical at the best of times leaps to another level.
“This Charming Man” is an up-tempo song, featuring guitar, bass, and drums. The song begins with a short introductory guitar riff; and after about four seconds the rhythm section. The vocals are first heard eight seconds after this. The chorus is heard only twice. The first time it is followed by a brief pause and the second time by the closing of the song. Lyrics – Marr/Morrissey (The Smiths) A punctured bicycle / On a hillside desolate / Can nature make a man of me yet ? And in this charming car / This charming man Why pamper life’s complexity / When the leather runs smooth / On the passenger seat ? I would go out tonight / But I haven’t got a stitch to wear / This man said “It’s gruesome that someone so handsome should care” A jumped up pantry boy / Who never knew his place / He said “return the ring” / He knows so much about these things / He knows so much about these things I would go out tonight / But I haven’t got a stitch to wear / This man said “It’s gruesome that someone so handsome should care” / Na, na-na, na-na, na-na, this charming man … / Na, na-na, na-na, na-na, this charming man … A jumped up pantry boy / Who never knew his place / He said “return the ring” / He knows so much about these things / He knows so much about these things / He knows so much about these things

Was bored again at work this afternoon – I really must look for a more interesting job! I haven’t done any drawing or painting for years, but since joining Redbubble my creative juices have started flowing again. This is just a tiny sketch based on a photo I took of my own eye but I’m adding it to my gallery as a pledge to myself to get my pencils and inks out again.

On the grounds of the Oka monastery, in Oka Quebec, is a blacksmith shop. On Saturday December 6th/08 while attending a Christmas craft fair, held in one of the barns, the public was invited to witness the blacksmith at work. / These artisans still use the tools of their forefathers. Today they produce various iron decorative objects such as candelabras and coffee tables in their shop in addition to the traditional work associated with rural life such as gates, agricultural tools, and horsehoes. It was a fascinating experience watching this young man demonstrate the skills needed for this ancient trade. Photoshop Elements used: Unsharp Mask

Life goes on, down by the river. Folks are peacefully mingling about the World Trade Center complex. I imagine this must have been just like this on Sept. 10th, 2001. Oddly enough, if you look really close at the left side of this image, (at the second set of palm tree trunks inside the building), does it not appear as if one of the towers is kicking out a white cloud and above the cloud it appears to be crumbling? Crap, not sure that I can leave this posted now, I just can’t bear watching images of the towers pancaking and coming down …. Taken with Nikon D200 and Nikkor 24-120mm lens. HDR image created from single RAW image using ReDynaMix. / Best viewed in Large for sure! This image is currently on display at the Walls Fine Art gallery in Downtown Norfolk, VA. Price here closely matches gallery price.

As we are nearing the 8th anniversary of 9/11, I wanted to post this shot of Lower Manhattan. I am a bit ashamed to say, that I have not seen the New York City skyline with the World Trade Center Towers. I can only imagine how magnificent it must have looked. We shall never forget!
A little Australian Native Stingless Bee (Trigona carbonaria), cleaning her long proboscis (a complex “tongue”), used to suck the nectar from flowers. These little bees are harmless to humans, which is a good thing, as to get this shot, at 5x, I had to put the lens right in her face.. Hehe! Shot in the Noosa National Park, Noosa Heads, Queensland, Australia. Flower is a native wildflower to the sandy areas, not sure of the name unfortunately. Canon 5D Mk II, 65mm, 5x. Available Large, and best appreciated Large!
