Watsons Crags are in Kosciuszko National Park and in my opinion is the most spectacular alpine ridge line in Australia. On this particular occassion I had spent the day skiing out from Thredbo to camp at the frozen Lake Albina on a spectacular little knoll overlooking the Crags. This shot was taken halfway through dinner at my personal restaurant. The heater at the restaurant was pathetic, but the view… For other shots from this area check out my Kosciuszko gallery. Spires in Arches National Park – Utah USA tour 2008 Please view large This area preserves over 2,000 natural sandstone arches as well as many other unusual rock formations. In some areas, the forces of nature have exposed millions of years of geologic history. The extraordinary features of the park create a landscape of contrasting colors, landforms and textures that is unlike any other in the world. / I took this shot after a fall down a hill, my wide angle lens took the brunt but survived thankfully although the polarizer was a little worse for wear. Limping, bleeding and rather scarred I throughly enjoyed my hike around this area. Moral of the story look before you shoot !!! by RedBubbleWell the 100,000 masterpieces celebration ended …
Well the 100,000 masterpieces celebration ended a couple of days ago – and it was quite popular! Here’s a graph of the daily sales on RedBubble since we launched in Feb 07: The first big spike was Christmas last year … and the recent spike was last week. Congratulations to the 2239 folks who received a sales notification last week. Another stat I was surprised to learn recently is that 74% of members who have made a purchase on RedBubble aren’t active uploaders … it seems there is a large number of ‘fans’ active on RedBubble who just browse, comment and buy. In fact I think that only about a fifth of the members on RedBubble are trying to sell their work … so last week over 10% of the people who are trying to sell on RedBubble made one or more sales. I also found it interesting to learn that most people (64%) who make a purchase on RedBubble make their purchase on the first or second visit to the site. There’s a couple of reasons for this. RedBubble itself generates between 30% and 40% of all sales on the site through our search engine work – i.e. a potential buyer types something into Google, they find something that matches their search interest on RedBubble and buy it straight away. The second part of the explanation is that Bubblers direct their potential customers to the site … and these people come to the site in ‘buy mode’ and transact pretty much straight away. And while I’m talking about the power of the search engines, they can generate opportunities in few different ways. Judith Oppenheimer has recently licenced one of her images to an agency after they found it on RedBubble. Congratulations Judith! You can read about that here. Well that’s about it for today … oh but before I forget, you remember the incredibly cool t-shirt comp we launched last week? Well due to popular demand we’ve extended the date for entries by a few days. Though dry most of the year, Antelope Canyon runs, and sometimes floods, with water after rains. It is the water, slowly wearing away the sandstone grain by grain, that has formed the beautiful and graceful curves in the rock. This Picture is no longer available as a card, because the writing get cut off. / But I now also have the same picture with white border added available as a card. / Grandma’s Coffee Cookies (recipe) w/ white border / Grandma’s Coffee Cookies / / 2 cups brown sugar / 1 cup butter / 1 cup cold leftover coffee / 1 egg / 3 cups flour / 1 tsp. baking soda / 1 tsp. baking powder / 1 tsp. cinnamon / ¾ tsp. nutmeg / 1 cup raisins, blanched (pour boiling water over raisins and let sit for 5 minutes, then drain) / 1 cup walnuts Mix brown sugar and butter together; blend in cold coffee. Beat in egg. Mix dry ingredients together and add to butter mixture. Stir in raisins and walnuts. Drop by spoonfuls onto cookie sheet and bake at 375 degrees F for 12-14 minutes A beautiful, soft drop cookie. / Freeze well. Camera: Canon Rebel XT (DSLR) / Len: 18-55mm zoom / ISO: 100 / Shutter Speed: 1/13 / F/stop: 5.0 / W/B: Daylight / Self timer was used for this shot. / Lit natural sunlight from near by window. / Only change to the main photo was a bit of cropping and softening of the edge, other than that it as is from the camera.
