I’ve been asking myself this question for a while… why am I so interested in capturing my surroundings in the shuddering of a shutter lens? Is it that I fear that I will forget these moments? i don’t know… I think it has to do with finding examples of perfection along this safari of life, so that I can prove to myself that this struggle isn’t in vain. I take photographs so that these moments of perfection can live on forever, in memory.

I cant wait, / In a coulple of weeks I am traveling from where I live in Newman to Kunnanura to photograph the Australian Safari with Dirtcomp magazine. http://www.dirtcomp.com.au/ / http://www.australiansafari.com.au/ The Safari travels all the way from Kunnanura to Perth and goes through Newman about half way, so I will have about 7 days on the road and I hopeing to not just shoot motor sport, But to take in the Kimberly’s, Broom as much of the north west as I can, and cut sick with the camera!! for myself too. I have always been glued to tv documentaries about Africa, way back when ‘The World Around Us’ was on (I was 6 years old). So when I travelled to Africa back in 2001, whoah 7 years ago, it’s one of the best things I’ve ever done. From trekking to see the mountain gorillas, being charged by a hippo, taking photos, meeting wonderful friends, talking swahili to a zanzibarian, learning about african dreams and coming home with a deep appreciation for what we have. I know I will go back one day. Until then I will continue to look over my photos reliving incredible memories. Here’s a couple of pics of me back then. I remember kids coming up to touch my white skin. I glowed compared to them! When i was in Rwanda, a bunch of kids kept staring at me, I didnt understand why, until they pointed to my black sunglasses – they could see their reflection for the first time. This picture is one of my best and favorites and it was taken at a very special Place. At Safari’s Sanctuary in Broken Arrow, OK. / I am a volunteer out there and love all the animals. But shortly after this picture was taken everything changed. During the Big Cat feeding one of our Interns went against protocol and opened the gate to one of the enclosures before the cat was fed. The cat grabbed him and wounded him really bad. He was taken to the hospital but died a day later. / The park is closed since than. It would be more expensive for us to reopen the park than leave it closed. We care more about the animals than making the visitors happy with staying open. We might reopen in the future but for now staying closed is the best decision. Anyways, to the point of the picture. I decided to dedicate this picture to Safari’s and each and every cent earned with each sale will go 100% to Safari’s so we can still feed the animals in a proper manner. I hope you’re willing to help us out. 200 animals want to be fed and treated nicely. We try our best to do so but without admissions our savings will be gone soon. Every donation is helping the animals!
