  • The Room At The End Of The Hall

Have you ever had that tightness in your chest…the anxiety…....the jumpiness and you ….just knew something was there but you couldn’t see it…? You were terrified that if you turned around, or look in the mirror….....it would be close enough to touch you? What you felt was most likely exactly what you were afraid it was….... We’ve all wondered just what the heck they are…..are they spirits of dead people…are they evil….were they ever human…so much we just don’t know…But let me tell you something…............... When my son was younger…...he had trouble staying asleep at night..He’d appear by my bedside and I’d scoop him up, take him back upstairs, tuck him in, and sleepily walk back to my room….......This went on for months…...I didn’t turn on the lights because I didn’t want to stimulate him further in hopes that this time he’d stay asleep…....One night, late into the night…..I’d finished tucking him in and was making my way out of his door and into the hall…and I heard a noise…..you know how you hear something quick and unexpectedly and can’t quite figure out what it was? I really thought it was the sound of someone groaning…....my husband was on a business trip, so here I was, at about 1 AM in my pj’s upstairs in a 5 bedroom house and I hear a groan….........well, that’s just great….I think, now what? Well, I’m not an easily frightened person, and I have a 6 year old to protect…..so….I closed my son’s bedroom door…............and stepped into the hall…............and listened…..........................there was a sound coming from the farthest room over the garage….....the bonus room we used as an office…...........Ok…..........it sounded like rustling, you know like, corderoy pants swishing together? But so faint I wasn’t sure….......The hall had never looked longer….....or darker…......but, I didn’t want to illuminate me and give it a target…...........I slowly ….........quietly ….....tiptoed down the hall….....I could see that the bonus room was lighter than the hall. There was a street lamp just outside the window ….........I finally, got to the door and carefullly looked in …....prepared to dash back down the hall and lock myself and my son inside his room, if a burgler were in that room….............The room was colder than it should have been…...and as I got close enough to look around, I realized that I could feel the hair on my arms and back of my neck stand up….....only the greater fear that something might hurt my son kept me glued to the spot….all the while I could hear something that sounded like whispers, but from everywhere at once…..It seemed even colder…....and I felt disoriented, my heart hurt it was pounding so hard. I could see most of the room from where I was standing, and I could tell that the closet door was partially opened….not much was in there, a couple of coats..but now it seemed that it had a deeper shadow, just in front of it…I couldn’t take my eyes off that shadow…that just didn’t seem….right ….The sound roaring in my ears could have been the blood rushing in my ears…...I felt…..I knew that someone, or something was with me…...close enough to touch me….........and…..... it did ... I screamed and spun…..............to find my 6 year old was now in front of me…..that was the hand I felt…...... I never found anything in that room….the cold was gone…the closet empty except the two coats…....the noises now just those of Katydids singing in the trees outside…...I picked my little sweetie up and carried him to my room and we both slept the rest of the night!!

I thought I’d post some of the work that was in the Drawing Room show which was curated by Audrey Kawasaki. I was really really excited when I first heard this show announced, because three of my favourite Australian artists were included. / Lilly Piri – Cherry Bees / Catherine Campbell – Gudrun and Ursula / Eveline Tarunadjaja – Ugly Duckling I really really really really want to get to a point where my work is good enough to join these lofty ranks, I admire the hell out of these women and their work. / And this is the amazing drawing room that Audrey created in the gallery window – she said it ended up being very similar to her room!

Hi Everyone, I am the very proud Co-host of a new group called The Writer’s Green Room. Essentially this group is here to provide a space for writers of both screen and stage pieces, and also authors that wish to have their novel dialogue critiqued in a stage/screen context. I KNOW that there are a lot of very talented writers on Red Bubble with scripts ready to go, or some who aspire to write something for either of these creative mediums – so get typing (or start dusting off those scribble pads!) and get them in to us! Please see the group page for further information! / The Green Room Take Care and have fun Flic Manning

The hard truths between you and I / Line your walls and book shelves / We lived so long on years of codes / So now when I start to write / The pen stops on the page / As though stunned Silent As though I am five years old / Standing at the counter in the kitchen / Reaching my hand up into the shelf / Without being able to see what I am looking for / Just flapping my hand around searching for something / That elusive answer that sits / There on the bench / Out of my reach / And out of my sight So I come back to your room to look for meaning / To search for reasons / Over and over like a broken jumping record / When what I should say / Is that it hurts / It hurts so much / That you are not here / And I am standing / In an empty room.

  • Making grass with the Poser Hair Room - Tutorial
    by Leoni Venter

I don’t have time yet for a full-scale tut but I’ll tell you my basic process, maybe that’ll help :) Normally when I want grass I’m using a pre-made set downloaded from somewhere … it seems to look nicest when the surface is not perfectly flat … Infinity cove ground, already morphed with bumps, noise, mounds, whatever – works nicely. I load all my poser figures first, do the poses as normal. Then I select the object that the grass has to grow on, and click the Hair Room tab. Make sure the object is still selected, then click “New Growth Group”. Give it a name, click ok. Then click “Edit Growth Group”. Everything in the scene should now turn a very dark grey / black and you should get a new tool dialog called the “Group Editor”. It has two buttons at the top, one with a + and one with a – on. Click the + button, and then click on your object where you want grass to grow. (This part sometimes doesn’t seem to work right, and it selects some other figure or part of a figure … then you have to repeat these steps, don’t know why … I muddle through and eventually I get it right ;) ) So if it’s working right you’ll be able to select polygons in red on your object. Only select as much as you need to make your scene work, because too much hair/grass really eats up system resources! Once you have everything in red that you want (you can de-select with the – button) you can close the “Group Editor” (colours will reset to normal). Then go click “Grow Guide Hairs” button. A few hairs should appear where you selected the polygons. You can change the length, how even they are, should they bend down or sideways … experiment with those sliders :) Under “Styling Controls” ... change the “Verts per hair” value from 20 to around 5 … that’s usually good for grass. The # verts determine how smoothly the strand can curve, but it also takes a lot more memory and processing power to handle many verts. You will also need to play with the “Hair Density” value … too little, and your grass will look really sad … too much, and your computer will probably choke :) If you want you can check the “show populated” box to see how it would look with all the hairs / grasses. For grass it’s useful to change the root and tip widths … in Hunters I had the root width 10 and tip width 6.8 … Basically just play with the values until you get the look you want. When you’re done, click “Calculate Dynamics” and go have a cup of coffee ;) When it’s done you can leave the hair room and go play with the material settings, which is also a lot of fun ;) And that’s basically it :D
