  • The reflection of this old barn is like our memories of a life gone by. We remember the past in general terms but the details may not be perfectly clear. • A simple dandelion, growing in my back yard, turned abstract by the light. The dandelion was in the shadow of a pine tree while the trees in the background were in deep shade. The middle ground was in the full sunlight of the early evening sun. One of the first flowers of spring, the lowly dandelion is the bane of every gardener and the scourge of every lawn. And yet this flower is both hardy and voracious in staking its territory. It adapts to all terrains, soil conditions and weather. It has jagged-lobed leaves, a hollow milky stem and white seedballs which disperse their parachute seeds by wind. Olympus E-510; experimenting with a 100 mm 2.8 Olympus legacy lens with 42 mm of extension tubes. Dryden, ON.

  • The gorgeous Silverspray Falls (also known as Hidden Falls) deep withim Tillman’s Ravine in Stokes State Forest Preserve of northwestern New Jersey. The afternoon I captured this, the falls were very powerful due to torrential spring rains that had been falling during the month of June. By mid-August they may be pretty much non-existent, depending on how dry the summer turms out to be. The hike itself is very treacherous, but very rewarding when you finally reach the falls. • The first of many dandelion seeds prepares to launch. One of the first flowers of spring, the lowly dandelion is the bane of every gardener and the scourge of every lawn. • A white tail doe has been bringing her twins to the back yard lately. Yesterday (July 2/09) was the first time they stayed for any length of time. They were actually kind enough to let me wander back to the house, get the camera, change lenses and get back outside for a half dozen or so snaps. Dryden, ON. / Olympus E-3; 70-300 mm lens Group Feature / Deer Me !!! – July 10, 2009 / Baby Animals – August 18, 2009

  • What summer means to me is escaping civilization, after being cooped up and snowed in for months, and camping out as long as possible (usually until more snow forces us back indoors). If I wasn’t able to spend some of my summer in the woods, I think I’d go crazy. I need the complete quiet of nature to recharge my batteries and make me more pleasant to be around. This was taken in the Great Bear Wilderness in Northwestern Montana. 8-7-09, featured in the UNITED STATES Group. / 9-18-09, featured in the UNITED STATES Group. / 9-21-09, featured in the TOP SHELF WILDLIFE AND NATURE ART Group.
