The Vigilant When no land was secure, this stone-made giants assured that the next day wouldn’t be made of captivity and suffering. Strategically placed, these strongholds were the ones who held a country’s name and honour during times of war. Fortunately we are in times of peace, and it’s amazing to step on the luxurious grass, and hear the wind while gazing such gorgeous castle. I can hear the church’s bells far away, a child laughter near, and the sound of the sheeps right in front of me. Yet… the sense of respect is omnipresent, and the scent of bravery still lives here… This is Castelo do Lindoso in the north of Portugal, on Serra do Gerês. José Ramos

Garden Of the Gods Park, outside of Colorado Springs, Colorado, is without a doubt one of my all time favorite places to shoot at….the light there just dances, especially during the golden hours just after sunrise…..Pike’s Peak is in the background, with the wind blowing the snow into the sky. / Thoughts welcomed! we were out for a walk on the quayside in Newcastle and the gulls were going crazy, managed to get this one catching a piece of bread and even managed to get half the tyne bridge in !!!! lucky or what :-)

an old mining pit wheel in a village near where i live, these are dotted about all over this part of the country, left to celebrate the past glory days of the coal mining industry, the sun was just going down, there was frost on the ground and i was frozen !!!!!

On a wet evening in Whitby this long exposure manages to smooth out the water and soften the detail in the sky. I have converted this to black and white but it wouldn’t have made much difference if I hadn’t. This long-exposure captured the mood of the evening well. Because of the weather conditions the town was deserted and quiet. The rain had reduced visibility and the only thing that can be seen on the horizon is the light from a distant boat which had been accentuated by the long-expsoure.

This is the where the current reflects off objects in the stream, and creates the dance of light and sound. / And there, / just below the surface, / a fallen leaf waits patiently, / taking a little respite from its journey down stream. We really don’t get much snow on the West Coast of Scotland, because of the influence of the Gulf Stream, and on the rare occasion it does fall, it is soon gone!! / Beinn Bhan is one of the peaks of the Applecross range, seen here from near Ardarroch, Loch Kishorn, on a gorgeous Winter’s afternoon. just as the sun was going down…at around 3.30pm !! Shot on my Canon EOS40D, tripod, polariser, f22, 1/10th sec, iso 100, auto wb, RAW file processed in PS CS3, levels/curves/selective colour/hue and saturation. MORE OF SCOTLAND HERE.. /

The Russel Burn tumbles down from the mountains of Applecross, seen as you take the spectacular drive over the Bealach na Ba ( the Pass of the Cattle ) single track road. It is an old drover’s route, and rises to 2,053 feet, from where, on a clear day, you can see outstanding views of the Western Isles in all their glory. Mostly though, it will be so cold and windy that you will will not want to stay too long !! It is a very wild and remote area, so incredibly beautiful. Taken on a Canon EOS 40D, mounted on tripod, / canon 17-85mm IS lens at 17mm. Polariser fitted, ( to slow the shutter for more blur) / f23, three shot hdr (-2EV , +2EV and 0EV …..from a minus 1 stop underexposure reading 0f f23, 1/15 sec. on Aperture priority ) iso 100, Auto wb, RAW files converted in Photomatix and Adobe CS3. / Finished with a little Orton.
