nine different cat poses taken from my sisters black cat shaped in the number 9
Scarification is a means of permanently marking the skin by cutting alone, without the use of pigments. The scars may be lighter or darker than your original skin tone and may raise up (keloid scarring). There are many ways to produce a scar but the cut must always penetrate the dermis if a scar is to be produced. The result depends as much on your skin as the method used. Black skin in particular is very good at producing pronounced keloid scars and this is a popular alternative to tattooing for people with very dark skin, for whom a tattoo might not show up very well. In many parts of Africa these scars are marks of beauty and a way to identify someone belonging to a particular group. Scarification also may mark one’s status as a civilized being, adult, or member of a specific ethnic group or initiation association. I spend a day in his school in a remote village of Benin to work on the Art in All of Us activities (www.artinallofus.org). I had really a great time thanks to the kids creativity. This has been floating around my room for absolutely ages now, but ive only just had the time to actually sit down and finish it. It was half coloured in, but because it had been like that for ages it just didnt seem right to colour the rest, so i got out a brush and streaked it with water. The flowers are took off google images. I’ll let you figure out the symbolism in it :) —-—-—-—-—-—-—— / Thank You For Viewing / Original By Emma Black / Do Not Use Without Permission

I got my head, but my head is unraveling / Cant keep control, cant keep track of where its traveling / I got my heart but my heart is no good / And you’re the only one that’s understood / I come along but I don’t know where you’re taking me / I shouldn’t go but you’re reaching back and shaking me / Turn off the sun, pull the stars from the sky / The more I give to you, the more I die And I want you / You are the perfect drug, the perfect drug, the perfect drug You make me hard, when I’m all soft inside / I see the truth, when I’m all stupid eyed / The arrow goes straight through my heart / Without you everything just falls apart My blood wants to say hello to you….. -NIN, The Perfect Drug VERY old photo / Edit: OOPS, forgot to add a title! © Jessica Walker
Inspired by Sarah’s nickers. Hi hon. Maybe this can be the companion piece – of sorts ,) Thanks Shayne the right title too.
/ “9” is the first of a new series called “Pure Abstraction”...the title refers to the number of triangles that are apparent to the eye at first glance… all my Still Life paintings are made up of triangles and it appears that my subconscious is at work here as well, as I did not consciously plan the shapes or the number in advance…I always let paintings evolve as they will, using materials that come to hand…you can call it automatic painting, but there is no doubt there is real significance to what emerges in the end... Nine is a very significant number, and references to it occurs in mythology, the occult, the Bible, to name a few, and in mathematical science it possesses properties and powers which are found in no other number….it is the number of finality or judgement There are many layers to the painting, which evolved, as I said, almost from a subconscious need to express myself in this particular way…I think here the viewer becomes very significant in that it allows a diiferent dialogue each time the painting is seen…an abstract work engages the viewer in ways that are totally different from any other genre... Inks, Pastels, Watercolour, and Acrylic on Masonite.
The road to cloud nine, where our new attitude energy is supposed to come from.

Cody Redmon Interesting concept – great application. I, too, see the impression of water/waves in this one, but I see something else too. I’m surprised no one else has mentioned it, but to me it appears as though a woman is laying in deep blue water with an outstretched arm, legs extended, one slightly behind the other, lounging on the face of a cresting wave. This is one crazy simple brilliant deep photo, really nice work Rosina. taken in merimbula nsw
