  • This is a mixed media painting that was produced on a piece of white heavyweight paper. I began this work a few years ago, by cutting a black monoprint on newsprint into sections and gluing them to the white paper. A figure formed from the positive and negative shapes of the monoprint. I then began drawing a few defining lines of subordinate subjects with ink. I then glued interesting gold and iridescent textile pieces to the work, which added texture, color, and form. After this I painted (with acrylics) the remaining spatial areas, also using a selective amount of gold and bronze metallic acrylic paints. I then refined some areas with ink again, (like the woven planters) and also glued real seashells to the work as accents (for her jewelry). Overall the piece conveys a cubistic feel, with interesting simplified forms, and a variety of patterns and textures which also help to express the Egyptian theme. I enjoyed relating a timeless subject that also contains elements of certain spiritual and philosophical beliefs. The original dimensions of the piece are 23in. X 18in. The initial monoprint and drawing work was established in 2005, and the remaining painted work was completed in 2008.

  • This was pretty much my first real non obscured view of the Sahara. If you’ve seen the photo of me on camel back, this is where it was taken, on those sands ahead. This view is from the Nile. It was an unbelievable view from the boat. The view from the camel was incredible too, but I was too busy hanging on for dear life to get any really awesome shots. I would have happily traded my time on the camel to have stood amongst those dunes and taken some more photos I feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to visit and enjoy the beauty of Egypt.

  • My first collab with Craig Goldsmith with dear thanks for the use of his photos from Egypt / check out his portfolio :)

  • Please visit Charity website: http://www.philadelphia33.org/ 100% of all money raised from sale ofall my art goes toward the extreme poor in isolated villages in Africa. I will never forget taking this photograph, as I was standing waiting for the ferry to come. Anyone who has been to rural Africa will know that things runs on African time. That’s why I call them Last minute.com. After three hours, these two guys came to me and said the ferry Had broke down on the other side, and that they would take me accross. So I got in, with all my camera equipment and a very wet Interpreter, who fell into the water. / One the way accross I suddenly realised that the large boat coming straight towards us was the Ferry. It was so funny. The fishermen refused to take any payment, as they said it would bring good fortune to the, as they had a white man in their boat. they both recieved Jesus as Lord and Saviour. It was really a blessed boat trip. visit: / http://www.philadelphia33.org/

  • Hatshepsut was born in the 15th century BC, she was the daughter of Tuthmose I and Aahmes, and was the favorite of their three children. When her two brothers died, she gained the throne upon the death of her father. To have a female pharaoh was most definitely unheard of. She was the first female queen of Egypt and a powerful one too!. /

  • Marilyn’s wonderful Egyption series got my brain working overtime. I had this little black and white deco drawing from Dover Publications copyright free archives that I had for months and never knew what to do with. I’m a kid of the ‘Fifties’, TV was new and I watched the old movies of the Thirties. Boris Karloff, and assorted Egyption vampire vamps filled the 13 inch screen of our first TV and my imagination.
