My husband Charlie was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease last year. He is an active and exceptionally creative artist who has his Masters in Art History. He worked as an event planner setting up large events for weddings, charity events and the governor’s ball for the Oscars. One of the most exciting events he did was a charity event to raise money for the preservation of the rain forest, a passionate commitment by Sting who performed for an intimate group that was tented and decorated as a rain forest. The proceeds from this event contributed several million dollars to restore the damage done to the ecosystem in Peru’s rainforests. He has done some extraordinary events like the annual walk of fame honoring an artist and pioneer in courtier fashion on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. The last event honored Salvatore Ferragamo, the brilliant Italian Shoe Designer for men and women. I was fortunate to take photos of the event and will upload some wonderful images including his innovative designs and creation of the stiletto heel made famous by Marilyn Monroe. Due to the rapid progression of this debilitating disease, Charlie could no longer work and instead of becoming a victim, he found an opportunity in crisis when confronting the reality of this progressive disease and the impact on quality of life. A new door opened and he discovered his passion for the fabric arts creating stunning duvets, quilts, shams, pillows and clothing. Our dogs Molly and Mikey are very attached to us and are important members of our family. Molly is a gorgeous and loving red and white Irish Setter. Charlie and I both suffer from health issues and when we are sick or in severe pain Molly “Nightingale” senses this immediately and moves her body close enough to soothe Charlie, puts her head on his chest or as you can see in this moving photograph, Molly has placed her head looking upward to soothe the painful symptoms of this neurogenerative disease. She is the best medicine with her soft fur and infinite love and devotion. She never strays from Charlie when he has a very difficult day dealing with the symptoms of PD and the side effects of the medications. Our precious Molly will spend as many hours as needed lying quietly to provide the best therapy available for anyone in pain, her unconditional love and soothing spirit. Please view the image paired with this photograph of our dog Molly soothing her Daddy who is suffering from the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. She / is the best medicine, a loving healer reflected in this very poignant photograph.

When true lovers meet in Mayfair, so the legends tell, / Songbirds sing; winter turns to spring. / Every winding street in Mayfair falls beneath the spell. / I know such enchantment can be, ‘cos it happened one evening to me: From Alexia / Here Acrylic, pigment, ink and gold foil
THE PILGRIM / A rich and lovely country wide unrolled, / A fair face by me, heavens where white clouds sail, / Why does my heart forever still bewail / Far-distant lands, more distant days of old? / Litwa! your roaring forests sang more bold / Than Salhir maid, Baydary nightingale; / Id’rather walk your marshes than this vale / Of mulberries, and pineapples of gold. / Here are new pleasures, and I am so far! / Why must I always sigh distractedly / For her I loved when first my morning star / Arose? In that dear house I may not see, / Where yet the tokens of her lover are, / Does she still walk my ways and think of me? A Labourer lay listening to a Nightingale’s song throughout the summer night. So pleased was he with it that the next night he set a trap for it and captured it. “Now that I have caught thee,” he cried, “thou shalt always sing to me.” “We Nightingales never sing in a cage.” said the bird. “Then I’ll eat thee.” said the Labourer. “I have always heard say that a nightingale on toast is dainty morsel.” “Nay, kill me not,” said the Nightingale; “but let me free, and I’ll tell thee three things far better worth than my poor body.” The Labourer let him loose, and he flew up to a branch of a tree and said: “Never believe a captive’s promise; that’s one thing. Then again: Keep what you have. And third piece of advice is: Sorrow not over what is lost forever.” Then the song-bird flew away.
It may not be the best capture in the world, but who cares? You’re lucky to be able to photograph a Nightingale at all!
