pencil on paper drawing This may have been the last of my Really Big Eyes drawings. I don’t think I made any more after this. I don’t really know why except that I felt I didn’t need to hide behind the exaggerations. But anyway, this may sound like a bit of a sad story, but I personally don’t really feel it is – the title of this piece rushed into my head when I was laying in bed – around 1 a.m., about a half hour after I got home – the night my father died. It’s actually the title of a beautiful song that I heard the day prior. When “IT” happened, of course so many things were in my mind. This was the last drawing my father ever saw of mine. (Well, how can I be sure of that?) / He thought it looked like his grandson Marshall – who looks just like his father – my brother Dan – who looks very much like my father. And so. / I didn’t know all this was going to happen of course – and my father left in a surprise ending. The drawing was virtually finished. It felt poetic to me then – and still does. Okay, and another story is that many people think it looks like “Star Baby” from “2001 – A Space Odyssey” which I had not seen prior to drawing it. Deep in the forest the ooze of horror floods the atmosphere, a baby sleeps, cradled in it’s pram by an open window.. the baby wakes and cries loudly, the parents think it’s colic but baby knows better.. Experimenting quite late around 3am with almost every conceivable technique was used to create this.. / I hope you like it… Scary Dreams was featured: /
