  • Reflective, calm and peaceful. A walk through Adelaide on a balmy summer’s evening along the Torrens, looking at public art and feeling completely at home. To have a camera there to capture a small portion of that feeling and take it home is what it is all about. / Talking Our Way Home sculpture by Shaun Kirby

  • Adelaide China Town on a Friday night

  • The most amazing light fell over Rainbow Bay, QLD at sunset on the 8th of July. The wind dropped to nothing, the swell was glassy and the colours of the sky and water kept growing richer and richer until finally darkness took over. An amazing night to be out walking, surfing or taking snaps…I hope you can get the feel!

  • Gerroa is an idyllic village at the Kiama end of Seven Mile Beach on the south coast of New South Wales … their sunset on Tuesday (6 January 08) was aided by smoke haze from bushfires in the Morton National Forest. After a day in which temperatures reached 40 degrees celsius and beyond, there were plenty of relaxed holiday-makers still enjoying the ambience, the breeze and the spectacular skies. • This image placed 6th in the sunrise/sunset challenge on July 19, 2009. The harbor at sunset in Charleston, South Carolina. On the other side of the harbor is Battery Park which became a public park in 1837 and is a beautiful place to stroll through large oak trees. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Please do not copy or download this image. • Yesterday I reported the swarming of thousands of these beautiful creatures in the Mount Burr Forest in the South East of the State. This lot were clustered around the nut on a bolt holding the side plate onto a powerpole. Interestingly I went back today and nearly all of the tens of thousands had disappeared back to wherever they came from. What a magical twenty four hours this was. Thanks to Biggzie (see his site for some great images) I can now tell you that they are the: Common Spotted Ladybird / Harmonia conformis Canon 400D 18 – 55 lens with speedlight.

  • Another trip out to the swarming of ladybirds that I have been reporting on at Mount Burr South Australia. This time we took them flowers!!!!!! The thousands I have posted on recently have dwindled to small groups of twenty to thirty and are slowly moving on. They climbed aboard our flowers which gave us opportunities to take some images a little different to those uploaded over the last few days. I promise the ladybirds shots will stop soon but they are just such brilliant works of nature that I can’t help keep going back whilst they are there. Canon 400D 18 – 55 lens with two stage extension tubes and speedlight.

  • A very very still night a few weeks ago at Brighton Beach, South Australia. 30 secs at f4.

  • BEST VIEWED LARGE Mainly digital work with some layering of my cloud images in Photoshop CS4. Title inspired not only by the birds, but the cool but now defunct TV show ‘Due South’ – you know, with the very cute Canadian mountie and his dog. / Group Features: ‘Outsiders’ – May 2009 ‘First Things’ – May 2009 ‘Exceptional Ekphrasis’ – May 2009

  • Byron Bay Midnight Ocean Rocks © / Vicki Ferrari The most easterly point in Australia! Byron Bay Moonlight Series / Byron Bay Moon © AS IS / Byron Bay Moon ©— This shot is AS IS (bar the signature) and was taken looking down from the lighthouse (tourist area), into the ocean – quite an angle to the tripod! This was as wide as I could get it, considering the angle! See below for more information. Please excuse me for being lazy by writing all of this in one description. It will fit with all the photographs in this series. These images were taken at Byron Bay Lighthouse, New South Wales, Australia back in 2004. The photographs were shot at night, on a full moon, close to midnight, which is why you can see stars in the sky, a passing ship has its light on, and it also explains the lack of bright reflection on the surface of the ocean. The experimental portraits were taken firing my Sunpak 4500DX flash (handheld), often over and over. Where there are two people (I have deliberately blurred the other person’s face, as a courtesy!) in the image, one of them being me, we had to sit very, very still (difficult for me to do!!) – not smiling (or talking, again hard to do!) as to hold the same smile for an extended period of time can be difficult and if you move your mouth, you get blur. Of course, this explains why those old nostalgic portraits from yesteryear tend to make you think the subjects weren’t that happy! I will also be doing some creative adjustments using Photoshop but will be including that information in the Technical Data. Hope you like this series! Mounted Print – Byron Bay Moon © / Technical Data / Nikon D70 / July 2004 / Close to Midnight / Tripod / Focal 92mm / F4.5 / 30second exposure / Original JPEG
