Oooohhh I can’t wait!! Just got a call at work this morning that the group is coming back up to Plymouth Airport midday today .. and they have my jacket! I can’t wait to see it! There’s an emblem on it that looks a lot like the picture above (except graphic!) Unfortunately have to work until 5 but pass by there on the way home. Looking forward to hitting the skies again soon!!!! Tomorrow though, due to wind and probably no flying (they never go up when there is significant wind)... Me, my husband and hopefully a few others are going to continue on the attempt to blaze that new trail up Stinson Mt, from the Quincy road side… very cliffy and very steep but my oh my the views will be fantastic! Along those trails, we never know what we’ll discover – from big big webs, to caves, to waterfalls, to bears and wildlife, and to wildflowers and plants I’ve never ever seen before! The one thing I know we won’t be seeing tho is people…! Virgin trail in the making doesn’t make for many people! lol! Looking forward to one very exciting weekend and hope you all have the same! Enjoy!!! xoxo! For more adventures blazing to the top click here

(All of these pictures are as is straight from my camera to you) The day started out very very cold (around 32 degrees) but there was no frost. Once the fog lifted we were off! (about 10am) Armed and ready with red tape and fresh batteries we once again headed up. Here is the forest of Stinson Mountain, located in Rumney, NH. in it’s wildness starting to show some color! We started from our back yard and for awhile our goal was to try to reach the summit. After many failed attempts we felt we were ready to try again! Oddly enough, though the forest is still mostly green! It really does not look like late September here! ... hmmm… / The sky was blue as ever and the temperature was cool – just right for a strenuous hike up to ???? We hope the top but never know where we’re going to end up or what we’ll see…. I turned around some more and low and behold – autumn is indeed sneaking up on us!! cool! On our own again, no trails, not even a hint of trails, but it’s beautiful .. and so green! I can’t believe this is the end of September.. in NH no less! Got lots of red tape….. marking the trail this time! As we climbed and climbed I realized we were not exactly going the same way as before – too many trees and where the heck are the cliffs and ledges…. at one point we heard a huge sound and saw movement – thought it was a person. We called out and all of a sudden the trees thundered and shook as whatever it was thrashed in the opposite direction…. I turned to look behind me and low and behold (heck with the creature!) this took my breath away! Staring back at me was Squam Lake! We kept climbing and found a ledge – thought it was the same ones we found last time.. but something was different! It was as if the other ledges never existed and we were on another plane alltogether! Turns out tho we were about 100ft higher than before and all the other ledges were just below us. We had lunch and enjoyed the views… Then, as we were sitting there finishing our sandwiches we heard the oddest sound… like Santa Clause! No kidding! Dingle bells heading straight in our direction! We called out and nobody answered .. oh no! The bells continued to arrive and low and behold out popped two cute floppy doggies happily prancing and aiming straight for my sandwich! Took a huge bite out of it and then started lapping my camera lens as I was frantically trying to get a shot in…. This one’s name we saw on the collar was “Thunder”! I dubbed them all, our buddies- the Dingle Dogs! They were wearing some odd bells – like little cow bells and radio thingies with floppy antenae…. This lovely lady’s name was Hope! A dingle dog too – my goodness they were cute! My hubby realized we might be stuck with these… there didn’t appear to be anyone in sight. We called out several times but no answer back – mysterious doggies! Here he is making friends… Thunder is making eyes at me – this is the one that side winded and took a big unexpected hunk out of my sandwich when they arrived…. how can I resist that face?! Thing is now.. what do we do with these dogs… they’re going to follow us me thinks… Oooohhhh sooooo good – and off we all go!!! Now we have a pack of jingling, dingling doggies with radios! Thunder is making faces because there was no more sandwich… but it was oooooh sooooo good! We headed through the thick forest and up up up. One tough cliff, then down a bit and then up again to another, almost impossibly steep cliff – the dogs seemed to have their own route and I thought why not follow them? ... but then they appeared and made cliff climbing look easy! I didn’t have my camera ready and cursing myself for it but Thunder and Hope climbed the cliff like a snake going up a tree with little effort! I couldn’ t believe my eyes. Then, while hanging on one of the limbs I carefully turned around and after getting my heart back out of my throat and down where it should be saw our bump we were on at 2800ft…. We do have color in NH! (at least up here!) My goodness the summit seemed miles away… we were still climbing! Then where we were started to go down again and we started getting a little dismayed but went down and found ourselves faced with a cliff even steeper and bigger than the last one if that was at all possible! lol! Our ledgey area (that bump down there) is starting to look rather small! We’re at 2900ft now and climbing…. Once again I had to carefully turn and look… what a view! The, what now looks like a little bump now is shrinking!!! Dingle dogs are still in tow and we seemed to have picked up some more of those….. hmmm…. WE MADE IT!!!! I was so exhilarated and excited even the thought that I might be exhausted never entered my mind! We really made it to the top and what a view and reception – lots of dogs, mixed with the Dingle dogs that followed us and lots of people with jaws dropped when they saw where we climbed up from… One group was speechless – they followed me over to the other ledges where the view to Stinson Lake was… We started talking and as I showed them the view, oddly enough they seemed to be more interested in me…??? I felt so flattered but that view… can’t miss that view!!! I told them a bit about our adventure up.. Stinson Mountain is known as one of the most interesting and mysterious mountains with it’s odd rock formations – Geologists from all over the world come up here to study them… A last look from the Summit from whence we came… there’s our bump!! Franconia – the big, beautiful White Mountains… What was once a fire tower – these old pilings mark the top! All in all it was a fantastic trip – we took the back trail down and a writer gave us a lift to our house from there – that trail starts at 1400ft and is an easy climb known as the Stinson Mt Trail (the official one) One of his books is about hiking in the White Mountains of NH! Hopefully will get to take him up the way we went and introduce him to the ledges! He’ll love it! Oh yea – and as for the Dingle Dogs!!! Turns out the owners were on that other side of the mountain with a truck and cage – apparently these dogs are used by the forest service to track bears! They were all packed away in their cage in the truck bed, noses sticking out and tails flopping every which way.. we were told these dogs can climb trees…. I BELIEVE IT!!! lol! From our backyard to you! Hope you enjoyed our latest adventure on conquering the mount!!! xoxo!
