Its late at night, you are restless, can’t sleep. A walk on the beach seems like a fine idea. No one is around. Just the sounds of the waves and the wind. The lonely wail of an offshore buoy, consistent and haunting. / You hear the sounds of your feet as you walk through the sand toward the path to the beach. / Nearing the path you wonder if it was such a good idea to walk out here alone at night. You hear rustling, the wind, you wonder? The buoy, beating it’s tune to the rhythm of the waves. A fog rolling in, brings a feel of unease to you. Looking down the path you wonder. Should I go? What was that sound? You strain to hear, but the sound of the waves and the wind leave you wondering if you really heard anything at all. And suddenly, the hairs on your arms rise….....

Went out this morning to Newport beach, it was rainy and drizzly but I took cover in the mens toilet hoping for it to let up. Luckily it was too early for anybody to see me or they probably would have called the cops thinking I was a perv. Took this shot to try to capture the mood of shitty day.

Still working on refining my night shots. Finally starting to get the results that I am aiming for. Still not happy with foreground, but I think I know what to tweak to get it how I want it. This was taken down at Newport Beach last Saturday night… a crappy night (again).... I seem to have the weather gods against me lately….. I don’t want much… just a full moon and a 50% – 60% low cloud cover.

Well guess which won ? And it gave me so many shots of this apricot coloured sunset, plus hardly any wind so that big photographer in the sky was helping me . Chuck Gardner asked if I happened to get any photos the pelicans while I was in Newport. I was in Newport, Oregon at the Yaquina Head LIghthouse (Newport Oregon) taking photos when this man came over to me and said I should take photos of this pelican since my lens could zoom in on it real well. So being the proud photographer that I am….I had to go take a few shots of this guy. I love his feathers. The pelican was just perched on a ledge way above the ocean. At 93 feet high, Yaquina Head Lighthouse is Oregon’s tallest lighthouse. The tower, made from 370,000 bricks from San Francisco, is double walled for insulation and dampness protection. One story, which has circulated for years, tells of a workman falling from the scaffolding into the hallow between the masonry walls where his body could not be retrieved. A fine story, and perhaps an explanation for the station’s purported ghost, but records show no workers were killed during construction. Strong winds did blow one worker off the cliff. Amazingly, his oils skins acted somewhat like a parachute and he only received minor injuries. The lighting of the first order Fresnel lens was delayed due to parts of the lantern somehow being lost in transit. Finally, after almost two years of toil, the light shone for the first time on August 20, 1873.
