Acrylic on Canvas / 120 cm x 180 cm The view from our painting studios on a wet day. I concentrated on building up a surface for this piece, of mixtures of impasto and watery glazes for a feeling of depth.

We so often sit and watch television or pine the time away indoors doing something – something that in some ways adds very little to your life if you think about it for long. Yet just over the hill from where I live this is the view that you can witness. And it will be slightly different every day and every hour, and from different vantage points around Lake Macquarie in Australia. Image taken with a 3.2 MP Sony Cyber-Shot P8 from the shores of Eleebana which is on the East Coast of Australia.

A cold but spectacular winter’s morning in Newcastle. Managed to drag myself out of bed and down to Nobby’s Beach (yes, the same place that the coal ship was about a year ago) for a sunrise shoot. This was one of the first shots of the session about 15 minutes before sunrise. Photo was taken with a Nikon D200 camera and a Nikkor 16-85 mm VR lens with a polarizing filter. A tripod was used.

BLACK GATE, Newcastle upon Tyne. The ‘New Castle’ at Newcastle upon Tyne was founded by the Normans to command a crossing of the River Tyne. The Keep was built in 1168-1178, while the Black Gate (a gateway into the barbican) dates from 1247.
This is Newcastle Canoe Pool. The waves were gigantic this afternoon – it’s not very often that water flows out over this side of the pool…. I’ve posted different versions on another site

This is a view down the mighty River Tyne from the swing bridge with it’s old wood jetty pointing down river like some old barge. Like a half remembered ghost of the trade that once and still does flow along this river. The river separates Newcastle and Gateshead and yet such is the relationship between the two sides of the river, there is a wonderful number of bridges connecting the two banks. In front the first bridge is the classic Tyne bridge , with the Gateshead Sage building glistening in the wet light underneath, while beyond lies the modern “winking eye” bridge. This foot and cycle bridge links the redeveloped riverside of Newcastle to the reinvent Baltic Flour Mill, now known for it’s contemporary art shows. This is a view of Stublick Leadworks Chimney as the wind blows across the heathland and having fun with the clouds over head. This is just outside Langley on Tyne in Northumberland Converted into a pinhole black and white Best viewed large
