This is two of the three auto exposure bracketted shots merged in photomatix. The boat moved too much in the longer exposure for that one to be useable. The Rous River is a tributary of the Tweed, and is basically surrounded by cane farms and mountains. We’re in the middle of one of the largest calderas in the world, I believe….a monster volcano from even before I was born! Canon 5D, 16-35mm at 16mm, f/10, 1/60”, ISO 50, tripod on a moving boat…

The southerly is ripping through and we’re settling in for a rainy day. Then all the sudden the sun pops out – illuminating Bondi buildings. Got this quick snap at the right moment with a Canon 1ds MKII and 15mm Fisheye. Love the colours.

These tank traps were placed along the length of Stockton Bight during WW II. What a glorious sky! (even if I do say so myself!) 3 bracketed exposures blended in Dynamic Photo HDR. I used the Canon 5D with 16-35mm at 16mm, f/8, three different exposures, ISO 50, and just one Lee filter at this stage, ND grey 0.9soft, tripod and cable release. Byron Bay Midnight Ocean Rocks © / Vicki Ferrari The most easterly point in Australia! Byron Bay Moonlight Series / Byron Bay Moon © AS IS / Byron Bay Moon ©— This shot is AS IS (bar the signature) and was taken looking down from the lighthouse (tourist area), into the ocean – quite an angle to the tripod! This was as wide as I could get it, considering the angle! See below for more information. Please excuse me for being lazy by writing all of this in one description. It will fit with all the photographs in this series. These images were taken at Byron Bay Lighthouse, New South Wales, Australia back in 2004. The photographs were shot at night, on a full moon, close to midnight, which is why you can see stars in the sky, a passing ship has its light on, and it also explains the lack of bright reflection on the surface of the ocean. The experimental portraits were taken firing my Sunpak 4500DX flash (handheld), often over and over. Where there are two people (I have deliberately blurred the other person’s face, as a courtesy!) in the image, one of them being me, we had to sit very, very still (difficult for me to do!!) – not smiling (or talking, again hard to do!) as to hold the same smile for an extended period of time can be difficult and if you move your mouth, you get blur. Of course, this explains why those old nostalgic portraits from yesteryear tend to make you think the subjects weren’t that happy! I will also be doing some creative adjustments using Photoshop but will be including that information in the Technical Data. Hope you like this series! Moonrise on Melrose © Vicki Ferrari This photograph was taken on the Melrose Road, Albert (central New South Wales, Australia), in the 1980’s. This is a scan of the 8X12 print in one of my earlier portfolios – there has only been basic editing done in photoshop, to remove the inevitable dust and scratches that are prominent with negative use (which become really apparent once you have scanned the image!). Apart from that, what you see is what it is! This is one of my favourites. It was even used in a country music CD a few years ago! I was a bit impressed by that – chuffed almost! (yes, I was chuffed, not almost!) You can take pity on the person that was in the car with me, driving home at night and having to stop! I have to take a photo! (and how often do we do that?!) I took this shot in Bateau Bay, which is part of Central Coast New South Wales Australia. Roughly 2 hours above Sydney. I love the glow of sunsets in wet sand and this, broken by the rocks, formed a scene I just had to capture!

Blossom’s_Photo_Gallery Australian King Parrot Sets of Two: / A_Top_Spot The colours of the male King Parrot are striking, with the head and underparts being vivid scarlet, the back and wings are a rich green and the tail a deep blue. It has pale green markings on its wings. Their eyes have a yellow ring and their bill is red above and blackish below. / The King Parrot can be found along the eastern side of Australia’s mainland, from Cooktown in Queensland and inland to the Carnarvon Ranges, into the NSW wooded coastline and inland to the Warrumbungles National Park, down to the bottom end of Victoria and inland to Wodonga. Their habitat varies to include rainforests, palm forests, eucalypt forests, dense gullies, clearings, coastal woodlands, farms and orchards, parks and gardens. / Their diet consists of leaf buds and new shoots, blossoms, nectar and seeds from natives such as eucalypt and acacia, as well as introduced plants, but they are also known to raid orchards and farms for fruit and vegetables such as apple and corn. / The King Parrot breeds from September to January and builds its nest in tree hollows, high off the ground. Three to five eggs are laid which are incubated by the female for around twenty days. The young are fed initially by the female, but then by both parents once half grown. Young fledge after five weeks. The Parrot is common in its ranges.

Snow Gum (Eucalyptus pauciflora) Their bark is shed in irregular patches in Autumn, leaving a smooth white to yellow, olive-green or brown surface, occasionally with scribbly markings from insect lavae.

Every Easter holidays my family go camping at the BIG4 caravan park in Pambula. This is handy as I’ve found it’s quite a photogenic location. I took this shot when it was overcast and a rather boring scene but, I wanted to see what I could do with it. Shot: Canon 400D + Canon 10-22 f/3.5 – f/4.5 @ 1/2, 1/8 (-2), 2 (+2), f/8, ISO100. Post-Processing: I blended and tonemapped the image in Photomatix and then took it into Adobe Photoshop CS3 and did quite a lot of dodging and burning and curves and levels layer masks.
