I do. And everything she symbolizes – the familiar sights and sounds, the period of our lives embedded in long term memory with our mothers, sisters, aunties and neighbors in it, the uniform sound of a sewing machine intertwined with casual chitchat. I still remember those gentle hands, gliding skillfully over soft materials, more than capable of turning a piece of fabric into lovable garments. Even my first girlfriend, the sweetest of souls, from a family of many, used to make clothes for herself, in patterns and colors she desired, as tight as I could wish, to perfectly fit the young man’s eye. Nowadays, the skill has migrated to distant lands, in search of a new pair of hands, not necessarily gentler, certainly cheaper. Time flies. We are left to do what people whose expiry date is fast approaching do – recycle the recollection of the good old days, the age when we were young and good looking. Now, we are only good looking. Such is life.

“The doors we open and close each day decide the lives we live.” / ~Flora Whittemore Nikon D40, Nikkor VR 55-200mm lens As I made my way to the beach early one morning, I found this at the end of a passage on the third floor of the resort. The sun had just made an appearance and I was in awe of the beautiful light and shadows created by the sunlight through the palm leaves and arched open air window. / Taken in February 2009 at the Majestic Colonial Beach Resort, Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Once housed art and crafts / Now hollowed reminder of the past / Color coded to forget / A life rich in elegance I was inspired by my love for the Roycroft Inn to write this little poem. Built in 1895, the Roycroft Arts and Crafts Community had many buildings to house the artistic community and unfortunately a fire claimed one of the elegant buildings years ago and now lays in ruins. / East Aurora, NY Casio Exilim /

Did you ever visit a place where you completely forget what year it is now? Once we walked through the front gate of the brewery we thought we stepped into 1850s. I would call it The Time Machine of Goulburn city. You walk in and for $5.20 it takes you 150 years back (tastings included). Built in the middle of 19 century it is one of the oldest surviving breweries in Australia. Beautiful place, with a lot of history in it and it is history that can be seen, touched and photographed. And the best part – it is a working brewery where good old traditional ale is still produced. This was a situation where I wished I had a wider lens than my universal Nikon 18-200mm. The window was very close to a wall and it was hard to fill the frame. I managed to find a little square of space on the stairs leading to the 2nd floor and set up my tripod there. Next steps were easy: 3 RAW merged in HDR, then tonemapped and post-processed. From my photoblog at http://www.bouncedphoton.com This print is available with 0% markup. Please enjoy and thank you for your visit!
I previously had this photograph on Redbubble. I removed in August. I’m reintroducing with some layered enhancements of the original.
