I try to get stuff out faster, but I’m limited by the number of hours in a day sadly…. Anyway… Yep – there’s a new show coming up at gallery 26 – opening night is tomorrow!!! So I’ve made a new video to show the older work – we really swept the house clean this time – almost everything came off the walls and was replaced by new work. A few old favorites remain, but there’s so much new… you’ve got to get down to see it if you can! Ok, so if you missed the work from the second show, see the video here / / And if you can, come to Gallery 26 tomorrow night! / /

Steve (bodymechanic), Laurie and I have just started a new group!! / It is called Sydney’s Guide to Exhibition’s Steve (aka Bodymechanic) is a well known Sydney artist on RedBubble and an amazing man full of ideas. He organises many projects, including group exhibitions. He knows a lot of people and is always creating new opportunities for the artists. He’s also looking for new artists for his projects constantly. Laurie is a Sydney artist and an art teacher living in Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Laurie’s aim is to encourage all the artists who want to exhibit their works in Sydney, find their personal style and get their work out seen into the big world. Midori is a Sydney artist and she exhibits her works in Sydney and Melbourne. Her solo exhibition at the Washhouse Gallery (Rozelle, Sydney) started on 25th Nov with 45 artworks. She loves to meet people and hopes to make more connections among artists. She believes this group will be the foundation for the artists who want to exhibit more of their works in Sydney. This group is for all the artists who are looking for more exposure of their works in Sydney!! / The images uploaded to this group must be the originals and available for future exhibitions (That means you can’t submit your sold works.) They must have information of sizes and the mediums. We can exchange information about galleries & exhibition spaces. / Share experiences about past exhibitions and competitions, art transport, workshops & classes, studio spaces, etc… Let’s get connected~!!!

Sadly it is the end of holidays for me. Today is my last day off after around 3.5 weeks or so of leave (I really shouldn’t complain, huh?!). I decided to spend part of it by taking some shots of the massive king tide that has hit the east coast of Australia. I thought of some possible venues and decided that some shots of a Sydney icon might be a good idea – Bondi Beach and the Bondi Icebergs Surf Life Saving Club. To make things a little more fun and interesting I also had a couple of new toys – a new polarising filter and a neutral density filter! Anyway – I thought I’d share a small selection of the shots I took, starting with: Bondi Beach – looking splendid for a surf or swim! — Here is a shot after playing around with a neutral density filter. Not sure if I like it that much… Time to move on to the Icebergs pool. If you are scared of sharks (after very recent and *very biased media stories) then these pools are what you need. — Mind you, with a king tide you could almost be forgiven for thinking that a shark may get washed up into the nearest salt water pool! — Especially with waves like this…. — This…. — And finally, this….. — If that scares you then perhaps you could imagine the pool under more smoother conditions, as portrayed with the trickery of a neutral density filter! For example…. —* And the final photo for this journal…. If you have made it this far I’m very impressed!! You deserve to sit back with a beer and enjoy a well earned rest by the pool! Hope you enjoyed the shots. Nothing special but I had a lot of fun taking them! Cheers Big Ears’ and hope to keep up the photo expeditions even if I am working flat out with a regular job!!

The rear of the Law Library at the University of New South Wales. Taken in complete darkness hand held ISO 1600 1/30 sec. Grayscale conversion using simulated infra red. The image is a little noisy but looks a little more like film grain so I have left it the way it is. I liked the intersection of the various planes contrasting with the spheres on the ground.

or it could be “There is a light at the end of the tunnel’ Cockatoo Island main North-South Tunnel Cockatoo Island is a hertiage listed in the middle of Sydney Harbour and is also the largest Island in the Habour. Since European settlement the island has been used for incarceration of convicts, industrial schooling and ship building. Maritime idustrial activity was ceased in 1992. 10 years later the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust was established and this island was placed into their care. Rehabilitation and restoration of the island is continueing and upon each visit you are sure to note chages. This was my second visit to the Island and this time the trip was instigated by my wife, as she had never been here. It was a day out with the inlaws with all of us enjoying the photographic delights of this wonderful place. The weather did get the better of us on this day as a afternoon thunderstorm drew the days activity to a close. _EQUIPMENT / Nikon D300 / Nikon 12-24mm f/4.0 Lens / Tripod / Remote Release SETTINGS / Shutter: / Aperture: / ISO: 200 / Focal Length: PROCESSING / Photomatix (yes, again) / Capture NX / black/grey/white point allocation / Noiseware

My brain is fried and I wish I was sitting under this tree
Every year there is a huge Christmas tree set up in the Queen Victoria Building, the nineteenth century shopping centre in the centre of Sydney. It is big and it spans three floors from the roof to the bottom. What is fantastic is that it has a different appearance every year. This year it is sparkling with thousands of crystals and lights creating a stunning view as you can see. I took this photograph early in the morning on 24 of December 2009. Not many people at all in the CBD before Christmas holidays. This is a tone-mapped HDR out of a single RAW processed with moderate saturation settings. There was not enough light in that part of the QVB, mostly natural light, so the post-processing helped to bring out the colorful details of the tree and the glass dome. Please enjoy and thank you for your visit!
Taken tonight 31 December 2009 at approx. 9.00pm. Unfortunately, I was in the wrong place at the right time. I won’t be making the same mistake again at midnight! ;-) Sydney Harbour Bridge is in the left of the photo.
Happy New Year folks!!! Enjoy …..
