  • Propagation of Telopea species: Telopea can be grown from cuttings but the more usual way is from seed (although selected varieties and cultivars must be propagated from cuttings if they are to remain true to form). Fresh seed has a high viability and germinates in 2-3 weeks after sowing. Plants should be potted up as soon as they are large enough to handle and grown in a sheltered position. When selecting a plant for planting into the garden ensure that it is at least 15 cms tall. Plants of this size should have a noticeable swelling at the base of the stem where it enters the soil. This ‘swollen’ tissue is a lignotuber and it contains numerous dormant buds. When established in the ground old canes can be cut right back to the lignotuber which will promptly sprout new stems. This is an evolutionary adaptation to some of the extremes of the Telopea environment (particularly bushfire) which ensures the plant’s survival. This photo was taken at Leura in the Blue Mountains of NSW.

  • A large Mushroom a.k.a. a Toadstool grows in our yard.

  • “Purple Rain” is an original fabric art piece I made while on a trip to visit my son in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Whenever I travel I usually buy fabric to add to my stash. All the fabrics in this piece were purchased during the trip. The purple fabric reminded me of rain puddles and the echoing ring that forms when a rain drops. In my new stash was a fabric with two different images of geishas with umbrellas. I chose one that had one foot forward. I placed it on the purple fabric so it would look like the geisha was stepping into a puddle. I chose another fabric to represent ground with golden grass. Next I cut out parts of another fabric to look like tall budding plants. I overlapped the peach color with a smaller piece of pink fabric, to give the plant some depth. The image is representing how beautiful and magical a rainy day can be. I still play in puddles!

  • This place is wild the sunflowers almost seem intelligent the way that they they face the sun and bow when it goes down I would love opinions on this piece I think the blur gives the scene a magical quality but I could be wrong / Taken with the nikon d-80 and the nikkor 18-135mm lens
