Hello All, I’ve been MIA for quite some time. Being recently laid-off gives one a bit more time to do more things. For me, one of them will be to give more focus to my art. That being said, I decided to expand my creativity a bit and reach back to an old friend. When I was in Okinawa, electronics were somewhat inexpensive and that is a bit of an understatement. I was amazed by so much I saw there and so much I wanted to share with my friends and family back home that I decided to get a camera and take some pictures. Upon arriving back in the US and landing in Phoenix, I took more photos. The most beutiful sunsets I had ever seen were in Phoenix. And on my way back stateside, I did stop in Hawaii and there’s still nothing like a desert sunset. When I moved back to New England, time and money were things that were hard to spare. So, photography fell by the way side. It was just too much in cost and time for purchasing film and then having it developed, only then seeing which shots came out and which didn’t. Enter the digital age and now initial costs aside, photography is a bit more affordable again. And you can check your shots on the spot. However, not having a steady income (unemployment has not been approved yet) any expenses at this point, are being cut back tremendously. So, I sat down and had discussions and while I was in NYC recently, I went to a shop called B & H. Two friends here, one a professional photographer, both recommended this place. So, I went on-line and checked out some of their prices and deals and then when bopping about the city I checked the prices in all the shops around town. None of them could offer me the deal I got at B & H. So, here again, is Canon, my old and dear friend. I went with the Rebel EOS XS also know as the 1000D. With it I got a 18 – 55 IS lens, a 75 – 300 EF Lens and that package deal came to $699. I threw in a three year warrantee that even if I drop it, it’s covered, a new case, two UV filters and a cleaning kit. I checked my old camera and I had a couple of filters that would do special effects and with these adapters I have on the way they should work with the new camera just fine. I also have a couple of polarizing filters on the way. I was able to charge the battery in two hours and then I was ready to spend the rest of the day photographing parts of New York. And once I get a decent day here, it will be spring in New England. I will start posting some of my shots as the week progresses. Tips and useful feedback will be much appreciated. Ciao!

Some of my photos were included in a feature in which readers can contribute their photos of how the recession has hit people around the world. I have been doing quite a bit of traveling over the past year, so I have seen it hit different places. The underlying need is common, but so too is the humanity that can be displayed at such trying times. France: A protest by students in the Latin Quarter: / Young men trying to sell trinkets to tourists at the Eiffel Tower: / In Singapore: If you have the time, the feature is worth looking through. There are a number of heart-wrenching photos in there, but an equally uplifting number, which demonstrate how much people are doing to help one another during this tough time. Click here to add photos or view those already contained in the feature.

Well what a surprise that was! Unfortunately we didn’t get to see it, but our shot Right of Way was featured on the Redbubble homepage. Thanks to all of you who have viewed and commented on the work and to those of you watching what we do we hope to add some new stuff in the coming week or so. The one shame is that we found out late – wouldn’t it be nice if they sent you an email on the day when something like that happens? Hey Redbubble, would that work? It has an amazing effect on your confidence to know that someone thinks enough of work you’ve done to show it to, essentially, the world. It has been a good start for us in this wonderful community: friendly comments, people “favouriting” work, a feature in the New York City group with Off Duty (thanks Judith!), a couple of sales and now a homepage feature. Here’s hoping we can carry on like this!! Peace Andy and Natalia
