  • The sunshine of a late October morning in 2007 turning a forest lane near Lage Vuursche in the Netherlands into a miracle world of pure bliss. Near Lage Vuursche, 22nd October 2007, 10.40 am / Nikon D80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 55 mm / F 8, 1/100, ISO 500 This shot appeared on the Home Page of Redbubble. / Chosen as avatar in the group “Happy Haven Photography” in March 2009.

  • Another version of this shot was the hit shot of the past two months on my lightthinker-gallery on deviantArt. In no time it roared up into second position on this gallery: the present dates are 1985 views and 285 favs. Some of you will have had a look at my ligththinker-gallery and seen that the central impetus of this gallery lies in the combination of lightthoughts, i.e. lightful and inspiring quotations with beautiful photography. Let me give you the lightthought 490 which goes together with this picture: “We are each gifted in a unique and important way. It is our privilege and our adventure to discover our own special light.” / (Mary Dunbar) And now the sad thing. I closed down my lightthinker-gallery this week for the time being. I told my 670 watchers that Redbubble had won at least temporarily and that they had the choice of watching either of my two jchanders-galleries, the one on deviantArt or the one here. After nearly three years, a new chapter has been opened. This Redbubble gallery, still in its buds, has developped such a dynamics of its own that I decided to give it most of my energy now. I hope you will appreciate it. Taken at Lage Vuursche, 22nd October 2007. 10.33 am / Nikon D 80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 70 mm / F 7.1, 1/100, ISO 500

  • A nice memory shot from a beautiful morning in December, taken at the “Ridderoordsche Bossen” near Bilthoven/The Netherlands. Near Bilthoven, 23th December 2007, 11.30 am / Nikon D 80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 105 mm / F 5,3, 1/80, ISO 200

  • Once again the light was winning on this spectacular November morning! Taken halfway between Hilversum and Laage Vuursche in the Netherlands on one of the most beautiful cycling paths in the forests around here! Near HIlversum, 14th November 2007, 9.55 am / Nikon D 80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 112 mm / F 16, 1/60, ISO 400 Featured in “Shots in the Fog”.

  • At this particular spot the morning-light show on that July morning a few days ago here in the forests near Hilversum/The Netherlands was at its best, when the sunbeams were chasing the morning ghosts. After which trees were they hiding? – I was ever so lucky to find this place in time, as this show was a fleeting appearance. Proposed for “Pay if forward” (http://www.redbubble.com/groups/pay-it-forward) / by Byron. Near Laage Vuursche, 24th July 2008, 7,15 am / Nikon D80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 48 mm / F 10, 1/30, ISO 200

  • While normally I submit different pictures to this gallery here and my galleries on deviantArt, I do not want to keep away from you the shots that are most successfull over there. And this one attracted more than a thousand views in only 16 hours! So I do hope you will like it too. / Taken again near Laage Vuursche in a lovely little beech-tree grove. As you can see the trees are still very green, but there are clear signs that autumn is on the way. It will only take about four weeks now to colour these leaves beautifully. Near Laage Vuursche, 7th October 2008, 10.17 am / Nikon D80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 80 mm / F 7, 1/40, ISO 400

  • It is fascinating to see the different colours at the moment here in the centre of the Netherlands. While some trees already show their full autumnal beauty, others still keep very much their green appearance. But on this beautiful beech-tree lane near Maartensdijk, autumn is clearly on its way. Near Maartensdijk, 12th October 2008, 8.39 am / Nikon D80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 135 mm / F 8, 1/3, ISO 200

  • Here an autumnal impression of a tree which many of you already know: In the meantime it has become a dear old friend of mine which I never pass without a short “Hi, old guy!” Near Laage Vuursche, 4th November 2008, 10.20 am / Nikon D80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 29 mm / F 5,6, 1/30, ISO 400

Fochteloerveen belongs to the Society for preservation of nature monuments in the Netherlands, this is a Dutch organisation founded in 1905 that buys, protects and manages nature reserves in the Netherlands. Restoration programma of the Fochteloërveen raised bog! / At the end of the last Ice Age, about 10 000 years ago, an extensive area of peat bogs was created along what is now the Drenthe-Friesland border. For centuries, peat was used for heating on a small scale, but large-scale land clearance for agriculture between 1600 and 1900 fundamentally changed the character of the region. All that was left of this once huge peat resource was the Fochterloërveen (3 000 ha) and a few smaller cores. Even here, the peat degraded and turned into earth after the peat bog was drained for tree-planting and farming (of buckwheat varieties). The result was a monotonous expanse of Molinia grasses. Only in the highest core area was the peat still intact, complete with the vegetation associated with raised bogs. Sufficient peat moss (sphagnum) still grew here to sustain peat formation: it therefore provided a core area from which the entire Fochterloërveen raised bog could be restored. Apart from agricultural activities, this is a lonely, isolated region (the Fochterloërveen itself is surrounded by penal institutes), which in principle made the work of restoration easier. In 1965, the drainage ditches were sealed off and extraneous water was kept out. The task of restoration itself began in the 1980s, with the building of low dykes, creating isolated compartments on the bog surface. The aim was to manage the water levels in each compartment in such a way that peat moss could grow there again. The compartments proved to be too big, however, and the differences in their height above sea level has meant that some are too dry and others too wet. / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / Featured in Amazing Orton Effect , All That Is Nature , Dutch Touch , Canon DSLR, 1 ARTISTS OF REDBUBBLE, The Beauty of the European Waters, That One Great Shot, Digital Photography”:http://www.redbubble.com/groups/digital-photography

  • It was a grand forest morning yesterday. First the blue light of an early December morning, and then the morning sun kissing the forest awake again. Here she made the last leaves of this old beech-tree light up like candle lights. Near Hilversum, 2nd December 2008, 9.39 am / Nikon D80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 56 mm / F 18, 1/50, ISO 400

  • Again a shot from my archive, showing a lightful forest road near Hilversum in December 2007. Only seldom you find these wonderful conditions of haze and sunshine in our forests here coming together in such a conspicuous way. Near Hilversum, 13th December 2007, 9.52 am / Nikon D80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 40 mm / F 8, 1/80, ISO 200

  • Today I ventured again into the blue forest in the early-morning mist, so full of unforseeable dangers and adventures. It proved to be another lucky day – all monsters had taken a day off!, and so I came home with a load of worthwhile pictures, happy that I had managed again to get up and out so early. To say the truth, I had to give myself a good push first, but when I looked out of the window and saw the mist, the blue world outside lured me irresistably to get on my bike again. Near Hilversum, 9th April 2009, 7,35 am / Nikon D80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 36 mm / F 13, 1/60, ISO 800

  • Many thanks for your views & comments /

  • A shot taken on my last bike trip on that wonderful misty morning of Sunday 27th September to the grounds of the country-house Groeneveld near Baarn. This is the same lane where I met the girl with the golden hair some moments later. Many of you will understand that this picture has got a completely new meaning for me in the last three days. I could have chosen a shot with light at the end of the tunnel. And I am pretty sure that there will be light at the end of my present tunnel. So many of you here on RB and also on devArt have written and confirmed that there is a good prospect for continuing my beloved photographic activities after the forthcoming operation. Ever so many thanks to them here too. Still this shot appeals more to me today. The feeling at the moment is one of going from the light to an uncertain future. But I shall venture into that mist. Indeed I am sure there is a lot of good to win by going on. Groeneveld, 27th September 2009, 9.23 am / Nikon D80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 62 mm / F 13, 1/30, ISO 200
