I just came back from a last minute two week business trip to Hong Kong. Only had a few chances to take the camera out and usually only at night. This is the first weeks effort. Taken from the Kowloon side looking at Hong Kong Island across Victoria Harbour. This pretty lady was sitting at the traffic lights so I went over and asked her: ”すみませんしゃしんをとてもいですか？”Or, “Do you mind if I take your photo?” “Not at all”, she said…. Nikon D300 with my 1979 vintage 50mm f/1.2 AI lens; the King of Bokeh!

This shot was the main centre-spread of a feature I recently had published in Tokyo’s ‘Metropolis’ magazine. It has also featured recently in mags in Australia, Singapore and Poland. To beging with the guy hanging out of the window spotted me and then just wouldnt lean out again. I attached my camera to a 10ft monopod, put a cable-release on and held the camera out with an 11mm lens on it. He thought I had walked off and I still got exactly the angle I wanted….

I was walking around Omotesando and Harajuku to kill some time before meeting a friend the other night and found this patch of cosmos flowers. Planted out in the street, behind them were the lights of a shop and a vending machine was providing some light from my side. Just beautiful. Got mesmerised for a good fifteen minutes by these flowers. Nikon D300 / 85mm f/1.4 AF D

I was out with one of my students the other night. We were on our way to the top of the NS Building and found this view from the 13th Floor. The borders top and bottom are actually the window-surrounds. I shot this at about f/7.1 for 2seconds, lens-hood removed, lens flat against the window with my weight pushing against it to brace it still. No tripod? Just improvise! Nikon D300 / Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8

The old Alameda Theatre on Alameda Island in San Francisco Bay. the theater has been carefully restored to it’s original 1930’s glory. A must-see for theater buffs.
