It has been called, ‘The best example of Neo-Classical architecture in Europe’. / / The idea for the hall came from Liverpool citizens who were concerned about the lack of a place for the triennial music festivals. To fund it a subscription list was set up with shares available at £25 each and by January 1837 £23,350 had been raised. / / Its architect was Harvey Lonsdale Elmes, who was only 25 at the time he won the competition to design the building. / / Do check out mariarty’s growing portfolio / / / /

  • Panic attacks are unexpected, isolated periods of intense anxiety, fear and distress that are associated with a range of somatic and cognitive symptoms. The onset of these episodes is usually sudden, and may have no apparent start. Although these episodes may appear accidental, they are considered to be a subset of an evolutionary comeback commonly referred to as fight or flight that happen out of context, flooding the body with hormones as particularly adrenalin, that aid in defending itself from harm. The panic attack is different from other forms of anxiety by its concentration and its unexpected, episodic nature. / Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is the term for an acute and continuing emotional reaction to an excessive psychological trauma. The latter may involve someone’s real death or a threat to the patient’s or someone else’s life, serious physical injury, or threat to physical and/or psychological uprightness. It is important to make a difference between PTSD and Traumatic stress, which is an alike condition, but of less intensity and length. Hysteria was also related to “traumatic reminiscences” a century ago. At that time, Sigmund Freud’s pupil, Kardiner, was the first to portray what later became known as symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder. Stress is often defined as the reaction to a situation that threatens the balance or homeostasis of a system.

  • Man, this took ages! And I’m still not at all happy with it. But it’s the best I can do … I suck with vectors. I initially wanted to make the male character seem somewhat joker-ish, but once I’d finished that though maybe it’d be better in a more noir romance/seduction way … but I couldn’t get it to work properly. Anyway… this is what I got. Please, tell me what you think!

  • Another in Skye’s neo-primitive series with Australian Aboriginal influences. This design features a diving Dolphin, a creature often associated with mythologies in coastal civilisations around the World, including Australia. This design was first hand-painted onto rock then photographed to produce this print effect. “Dolphin Dreaming” is one of my early works in the 3D painting medium I created a few years ago. I consider this series my tribute to the many happy years I lived in Australia as a nearly starving artist :o-) 25% proceeds benefit the great wildlife protection group WildlifeDirect.org / Thanks for viewing my designs. ~ Skye

  • The Latin names of my plantscapes are all derived from the species living there. The green and yellow texture surfaces on this painting are inspired by a Lettuce Coral, Agaricia which is commonly found in the Caribbean. It now serves as a memorial for all Australians who served in war and it is the site of annual observances of ANZAC Day (25 April) and Remembrance Day (11 November). Beneath the Sanctuary is the Crypt containing a bronze statue of a father and son, representing the two generations who served in the two world wars. Around the walls are panels listing every unit of the AIF, down to battalion and regiment, along with the colours of their shoulder patch. The Crypt is hung with the standards of various battalions and regiments, listing their battle honours. • This is a building at the end of Rundle St Mall in the Adelaide CBD, Australia. I found the style to be so close to that of many neo gothic buildings in America, as seen in thousands of movies etc. I decided on a slightly ominous mood for this one, daytime darkness. Added two textures to give the feel of an old picture or movie still, taken from a magazine. I think this has a slight New York feel to it. That may or may not be due to the fact that every ominous disaster film is set there :) Canon 50D / 58mm, 18 – 55 Textures taken from www.deviantart.com free use stock. MCN: C4EY3-171U2-BRF4J

  • The Cathedral of the Good Shepard, San Sebastian, Spain This neo gothic cathedral stands at the end of a decently busy street and is a darkly beautiful building. The architecture is so intricate and detailed all over the spires and roofline. It’s a photographical dream of a building. It was built in 1880 and completed in 1897. Preservation of churches and cathedrals in Spain is of high importance, so it looks like it was built nothing more than 50 years ago! Simple adjustment of lighting in this one, adding an omni to create a darker mood of needed deliverance and salvation.
