And its something quite peculiar, / Something thats shimmering and white. / Leads you here despite your destination, / Under the milky way tonight The Church

  • Christmas. Overrated.

In my humble opinion… Christmas is a time when all the people we didn’t have enough time for all year have a day off at the same time as you, and therefore we are obliged to see them. Christmas is a time where we gather in communities of friends, family or faith and attempt to bond over similarities. Christmas puts pressure on us to be happy and healthy and interesting, and to converse with people, and take photos and smile. Christmas is synonymous with excess- presents, food, drinking, behavior, risk taking. Christmas is about how we feel – me me me. Who spent the most, who was the most generous, who chose the most heartfelt gift, who suprised me the best… Christmas reminds us of all the bad things that happened on or around any previous Christmas and makes us depressed Christmas is never allowed to be ‘alone time’ Christmas means spreading yourself thin so that you can visit everyone who wants to see you, despite most of them not inviting you around the other 363 days of the year, or likely to invite you around for the following 364. Christmas is a time for guilt. What didn’t I buy in time? What charity should I have given to? I should have gone to Church. I should have chosen a better present. I shouldn’t have ignored these people all year. Christmas… Sorry if I think it’s a bit overrated. P.S. despite my negativity about it, I do have fun… really
