I took this photo over Little Neck Bay in New York City in Fall 2007. I was searching for a good spot when I saw the sun breaking over the horizon with a cool little cloud formation leading the way. I ducked behind some reeds on the shore and took this shot.

(-: Giraffes have long necks, which they use to browse the leaves of trees. The vertebrae are separated by highly flexible joints. The base of the neck has spines which project upward and form a hump over the shoulders. They have anchor muscles that hold the neck upright. An unexpected danger to giraffes in captivity is that, as they are typically the tallest objects in a zoo, giraffes are at increased risk of being struck by lightning. In the wild, this hazard is reduced by the presence of trees.

So rare, the St. Louis Zoo has only two. The Swans enjoy a pristine outdoor home where the water is so clear, one can see the growth on the concrete bottom, adding a colorful background for viewing. The Swans are often visited by a few other birds that travel freely through the zoo grounds, including peacocks that often display for the Swans. Talk about confusion !!!! :-)
