This began as a photo of an actual “Secret Garden” my husband and I found on one of our “Date Days”, there were wood sculptures of insects and many levels of an array of beautiful flowers. This dragonfly sculpture stood watch above the garden and I played with many flower photos and a few fairies to greate the magic that unleashes within my mind’s eye…and voila ;) “In my garden there is a large place for sentiment, my garden of flowers is also my garden of thoughts and dreams. The thoughts grow as freely as flowers, and the dreams are as beautiful.” Abram L. Urban / /

Kayaker off the coast at Larrabee State Park. View out across Bellingham Bay at the Lummi Islands, from Larrabee State Park, a state park in Washington, located six miles (10 km) south of the city of Bellingham. It was the first state park to be created in Washington. Larrabee State Park had its beginnings in 1915, when the Larrabee family donated 20 acres of land to the state with the intent that it be made into a park. In 1923, the new park was officially named after Charles Xavier Larrabee. Shot this with my Panasonic point and shoot camera. I know, not my usual work. I went to the beach a few days ago and happened to get some amazing captures of the sunset, which usually doesn’t go well for me. This time it was just perfect. This is the horizon in case you can’t tell. I photographed it at an angle. I reversed it, water above, sky below. Added a purple hue in PS, upped the contrast and that’s about it. I like it. We get pretty sunsets here. Puget Sound, Edmonds, WA © Jessica Walker 2009

Not my normal photography, but loved the result… As a favorite garden flower of antiquity, the lily was fabled to have sprung from the milk of the Greek goddess Hera and was linked to fecundity not only in Greece but also in Egypt and the Middle East generally, where it was a popular decorative motif. The only white lily that bloomed here in Washington, late this summer, shot as is.
