Breeze of Existance / By Wendy Slee Then as if through deep forests, / With their breath held waiting / Comes a stirring, a movement, anticipating… / Leaves awaken, heart quickens, limbs lift and extend / To receive the cool caress of a long welcome friend. / And you are here, / You the wind, / It is you that I know, / Yet know not where you come from, nor where you will go. / A free spirit you pass by me, / Yet somehow remain, / Swirling around me and through me, / Easing the pain… I ache to just hold you, keep you here for all time / But I can’t catch the wind / Cannot grasp what’s not mine…. / If I close my fingers, I’ll hold nothing but air… / If I reach out to possess you, it’s myself I’ll ensnare… / So I stand in your path, feel your breath on my face / And just bask in your spirit / As it moves through my space… / In the silence of your passing, the emptiness wake, / There’s a stillness that echoes with all you evoked / The power and beauty of the zephyr flies free / But your essence and magic has become part of me.

Hello :-) smiles happily Pretty much all of my time of late has been spent drawing… So much so I started to forget what sunlight looked like and dark shadows started to form under my eyes. Not a nice look… But! The weather here has been so beautiful, so warm and so alluring that I had to put my pencils down, put my trainers on and venture out into the woods. When i was a child i spent countless hours by myself playing around in the woods and streams… Amongst the trees i felt safe and strangely at home. I still love all things green and muddy so – i thought – why shouldn’t i play around in them now? I’m still a child at heart. And so… Amongst my drawings and writings and all things arty i’ve been enjoying tree climbing, stream jumping, shoe losing, t-shirt wetting, water splashing, muddy smelling madness. I know there is a lot of love for all things green and natural within our lovable redbubble community so i thought i would share some of my recent woodland adventures… Hurray for silliness! Oh… and this one below was me just after falling into the stream! I have seen some amazing trees, some were so incredible i will be using them as inspiration for a few new drawings. You know what would be wonderful? If this journal can inspire yourself to put on your wellys and go playing in a near by stream or randomly climb a tree. Maybe take your camera with you… You may just see something that inspires you to create your next masterpiece. Believe me… Its well worth it and it may just make you feel like a child again… Life’s far too short not to!

Late last evening I stepped outside to let the dog take his final run. It was warm and humid, almost clammy. Sometimes there’d be a breeze, othertimes all was still. The dark night air was fresh and alive, probably because there’s a forest preserve directly across the street. The aromas of leaves, mold, wild flowers, damp soil and grasses were carried to me within that fragrance. Is this the perfume of nature spirits, deer folk, and fairie folk? Inhaling such air is medicinal, the molocules enter our bloodstream and convey living green essence to every cell. Just one of the many ways we are connected to all that is, for these molocules nourish and build new cells, becomeing part of us. I seek it out whenever I can. After one fitful gust there was a dry, rustling sound issuing from all directions, yet the wind had stopped abruptly. Before I could determine exactly what was happening (other than thinking immidiatly that this wasn’t common and wondering who or what was creating the disturbance) a nearby tree released a shower of narrow, yellow leaves, a curtain of movement. During the next few magical seconds something miraculous occurred. Against the dark background these leaves were all flashing yellow and gold, flickering slivers luminous and silouetted by turns while falling through the glow of a distant street lamp. There wasnt a sound other than leaves landinf softly on grass and brick. What was strange is rather than drift, these little leaves fell, spinning and twirling, directly to earth. In less than a minute it was over as abruptly as it had begun. The night was silent but for crickets and traffic. If I were to define this moment in watercolro pigments, they would be indigo, neutral tint, cadmium yellow light, and yellow ochre with just a touch of sap green. I’m still wondering about the sudden rustling sound just before the release, because the breeze had stopped seconds before. It was the only tree that did this, the rest still have leaves, and green leaves at that. I love when things like this happen, they make my day and I relive them again and again in my heart. Someday this may become a painting, or maybe not. It dosnt matter. I think many of the peoelp here on RB understand this. Stand Still I watch as the leaves are trembling / in the evening sun, / and painting touches of green / throughout the forest. Come rain or shine, / on these colors of mine. / Lit by the evening sun. The pure essences / of spring, shinning out as if to say, / I haven’t a care in the world. Seasons come, and season go, / each one having its owns glory to show. / Urging me, there is a time to be still.
