(Also Known as “Duck on a Rock”) Standing alone late evening as a witness to the Testimony of Time this sheer cliff face, battered, scared stood a casuality to the erosion of time and its environment around it. If we could see over the decades what it had witnessed it certainly would be breathtaking to say the least. The Grand Canyon is a steep-sided gorge carved by the Colorado River in the United States in the state of Arizona. It is largely contained within the Grand Canyon National Park — one of the first national parks in the United States. President Theodore Roosevelt was a major proponent of preservation of the Grand Canyon area, and visited it on numerous occasions to hunt and enjoy the scenery. A map of the Grand Canyon and surrounding areas, circa 1908.Longstanding scientific consensus has been that the canyon was created by the Colorado River over a six million year period. The canyon is 277 miles (446 km) long, ranges in width from 4 to 18 miles (6.4 to 29 km) and attains a depth of over a mile (1.83 km) (6000 feet). Nearly two billion years of the Earth’s geological history have been exposed as the Colorado River and its tributaries cut their channels through layer after layer of rock while the Colorado Plateau was uplifted. The “canyon began in the west, followed by another that formed in the east. Eventually, the two broke through and met as a single majestic rent in the earth some six million years ago. The merger apparently occurred where the river today bends to the west, in the area known as the Kaibab Arch. There are dolphins there, with whom i connected daily and a lot of sealife, including birds, seastars, rays, fish…. the original drawing is gifted to Jack, a fellow artist i met on Tangalooma and now friend, who really appreciated this drawing so much, that I felt greatly encouraged….

The Bisti is a 45,000 acre National Wilderness that is an ancient seabed and is now full of hoodoos, striated rock formations, petrified wood and dinosaur bones, and other examples of tortured geography of the most surreal sort. The Bisti is located in Northwest New Mexico, near the Four Corners town of Farmington. On this occasion, six of us hiked in to the Bisti just before sundown, on the night of the full moon. We packed in a scant two miles, but the undulating and unforgiving landscape (and the frequent photo breaks) made it seem much further. Along the way, we encountered another group of Bisti chroniclers led by Carole Devillers, frequent contributor to National Geographic magazine and one-time guide for Jacques Cousteau. Pentax K20D, 1/3 second @ F5.6, ISO 200, 160mm Using a Scott Kelby technique, I shot the moon separately. Then, in Paint Shop Pro XII, I copied an adjustment layer and converted that to B&W and then to infrared. Then I reduced the opacity to let in a little color from the bottom layer. It was founded in the year 1074 by Archbishop Gebhard of Salzburg and is thus the oldest extant foundation in Styria. The Admont Benedictines attempt to live by the Rule of St. Benedict (“house rules” for a monastic community), which through its breadth and depth has achieved much of important over the centuries and indubitably offers orientation for the future. The rhythm of their life is stamped by prayer, the fulfilment of manifold tasks in pastoral care, education, culture and in social areas and through the personal deepening of their lives. In this God is always the central point. This is especially true of the life style of the Admont Benedictines whereby the church is seen as the centre of the foundation. In addition to serving 26 parishes, the Monastery runs a nursing home in Frauenberg, a secondary school and further businesses which have roughly 500 secular employees. The main cultural attraction of the Monastery is the Baroque library and the new large museum. Nearness to God and the faith that determines the life of the monks can be felt throughout the whole Monastery grounds. This is also true of the library and museum and equally for the gardens around our house. Thus Admont Monastery is a spiritual, cultural and economic centre of important far beyond the region.
Went to go spend the day with Storm, Hank and Shaya today….and as luck would have it… / Hank decided to go for a bath….Oh my gosh…was I lucky or what??? / The white you are seeing in Hank’s eyes is something called a nictitating membrane. This eyelid is transparent, and sweeps across the eye from side to side. It grows in the inner corner of the eye, right next to the tear duct. This is a protection against getting any water, blood, etc in the eye…So all my bath pictures have Hank with his nictitating membrane. Nothing is wrong with his eyes at all…
