A February storm unleashes its power in the beauty of non-stop lightning over Spencer Gulf in South Australia. This 15 second exposure shows just a small sample of a spectacular night’s viewing. The tiny lit chimney, that you can see on the left (which belongs to the lead smelter in Port Pirie), is actually 205 metres in height, which gives perspective to this, the power of natures finest glory.

This was my first RedBubble post and one of my personal faves. / I shot this at Jervis Bay, the day after a cyclone up in Queensland created some amazing sea swell even this far down the coast. The cliffs they were breaking against are 100m high and these were going halfway up so were pretty spectacular I can tell you. The day before they were going all the way up the cliffs and then some but I didn’t realise I had the camera on autofocus and they all came out blurry in the low light – very, very frustrating as I’ve never seen waves like them. Carved By Nature’s Wrath / The 12 Apostles, Victoria Following a day of torrential rain and gale force winds, the sun shone momentarily, lighting up the moody sky, before plunging the rugged coastline into complete darkness. As night falls, a solitary waterfall is all that remains of the passing storms, returning the much needed rain to the swollen seas of the shipwreck coast. When the thunder comes and you are standing at 12,000 feet, this is probably the last place you want to be. So when the thunder comes and you are the highest object in the Colorado Rockies….run!!! Lightning strikes kill people in the high country every year and needles to say I pretty much high tailed it after shooting this, back to the car as quick as I could. Loveland Pass is a Colorado landmark, and looking here you look out over the Continental Divide. It is the highest mountain Pass in the United States to be plowed and stayed open year around, as trucks carrying hazardous chemicals must cross this way instead of using the Eisenhower Tunnel. I went ahead and decided to process this in HDR using Photomatix and final output through PS CS2, the reason for the HDR was to catch the dynamic light (which seems like I am always chasing) and the drama in the clouds with the approaching thunderstorm. LucisArt used for final detail work. It fascinates me how creation myths and evolutionary thought seem to converge around the possibility of a spark such as this igniting life. / Taken off the “Balcony” – a beautiful section of coastal cliffs in Royal National Park just south of Sydney Australia during a spectacular storm. I’ve shot about half a dozen storms here this year. The others all drifted out to sea which made them nice and safe and easy to photo so I got lulled into a false sense of security with this one. It decided to head straight up to where I was photographing and at one stage I had to hide under a rock overhang with bolts going off all around – deeply scary but wouldn’t have missed it for anything – a magic night of biblical proportions I can tell you and one I’ll never forget. This beautiful stormy scene presented itself as I was overlooking the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs. (If you look closely, you can see the Kissing Camels near the lower right-hand corner.) Hard to imagine it’s in the middle of a huge city. Update 20-June: Exciting news! This photo was chosen to be published in Gaia – The Living Planet, a book compiled of imagery and poetry from within the RB community. I’m so excited to receive my copy in the mail soon!

This pic is as it was when I captured it. 2 Nights ago we had a small ice storm, it left about 2 centimeters of ice on every roof, electric lines and every trees in the locality, I have my share of trees surrounding the house, lilac,pines, maples, cedars and bushes of all kind. / Yesterday night was a full moon, the sky was clear of all clouds and the moonlight was very bright with no fog, here are some photos of a series I took around the house, some in total blackness with no street lights to disturb the beautiful bluish rays and hues of the moon and some have a little spark coming from the orange tinted lamp post we have as street lights in front of my house. / This is much better viewed larger, you’ll see… / Hope you enjoy the pics and thank you for viewing! 1-WOOOOOOW! Nick and I were hoping to catch up with Ken Wright for a shoot, but the weather wasn’t looking good. Ken decided to sleep in, but Nick and I drove down to the coast anyway. Sat in the car while it rained and waited, and waited….then walked down to the rocks after dawn, with umbrellas….and waited some more….eventually I weakened and asked for the keys so I could start shooting…. I’m glad I did…..got some rippers, in the end! Thank goodness for the heavy clouds, makes shooting after dawn so much easier! Canon 5D, 16-35mm at ?, f/11, 0.6”, ISO 50….lee nd grad filters, tripod, cable release, firm footing on high ground, surging tide. Right place, right time for this shot! Wanted to shoot the Devils Kitchen in the Noosa Heads National Park, but the sky didn’t agree with landscape photography on this afternoon. Hanging around shooting my favorite subjest, eagles, this offshore rainstorm came rolling in. The setting sun came out, and supplied this wonderful scene! By far the most illuminated rainbow I have ever seen, it was so bright.. Canon 50D, 10mm, Available Large, and definately best viewed Large! Noosa Heads National Park, Queensland, Australia.
