This was taken in Little Lakes Valley, Eastern Sierras, Ca. I have submitted a few different photos from this hike and the lighting was just so intimate that I may just remember that day forever. This is the one furthest down the trail and closest to the mountains in the background. There are many meadows along the trail and they are usually very lush but by summer’s end they start to dry out like this. I thought it made for some nice contrast. You can see a little bit of the trail on the right leading into the pines.

This is the end of the rapids at the bottom of Raleigh Falls. I had to crawl down in a ditch and around a culvert to get this picture. A long shutter speed helped smooth the flowing water. 80 km east of Dryden, Ontario, Canada. Olympus E-3, 70-300 F4.0-5.6, Hoya ND 8 (3 stop neutral density filter)

There are few places in Colorado that I love more than this one, and yes, it is a very iconic place, situated between Allenspark and Estes Park…and in Autumn it simply comes alive in ways I can not even begin to mention, the bushes turn a liquid gold in color, and everything resembles a painting….beauty in it’s most sincere form in Nature. I hope you all like it! / John /

In 2007, wildfires surrounded us. The air was thick and grey with smoke. It was so hot and so dry, we longed for a cool breeze, and clear air. This scene wasn’t outside my door, but it was inside my mind, so I painted it and pretended I was there watching them! This watercolor is painted on matboard, covered with many layers of gesso, and painted with Windsor and Newton watercolors. I like painting on this surface much better than using watercolor paper. Original size, 8.5X10.
