Canon 10D / 17-40mmL Antelope Canyon is the most-visited and most-photographed slot canyon in the American Southwest. It is located on Navajo land near Page, Arizona. Antelope Canyon formed over the course of millions of years by erosion of the Navajo Sandstone, primarily due to flash flooding and secondarily due to wind erosion. Rainwater (especially during monsoon season) runs into the wash that Antelope Canyon is part of, picking up speed and sand as it rushes through the narrow passageways. Over time the passageways are eroded away, making the corridors wider and smoothing hard edges in such a way as to form characteristic ‘flowing’ shapes in the rock. Lower Antelope Canyon, called Hasdeztwazi, or “spiral rock arches” by the Navajo, is located a few kilometers away from the upper Antelope Canyon and is a more difficult hike. Background Information: / Tofino is a village of about 1,650 residents on the west coast of Vancouver Island, in British Columbia, Canada, located at the western terminus of Highway 4. It is located at the tip of the Esowista Peninsula, and is thus a part of Clayoquot Sound. Islands in the vicinity include Meares, Vargas and Flores. Lone Cone on Meares Island is an extinct volcano. Tofino and the nearby town of Ucluelet are the closest towns to the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve. The settlement of Tofino first acquired the name in 1909 with the opening of the Tofino Post Office, named in association with Tofino Inlet nearby. Tofino Inlet was named in 1792 by the Spanish commanders Galiano and Valdés, in honor of Admiral Vicente Tofiño, under whom Galiano had learned cartography. A popular tourist destination in the summer, Tofino’s population swells to many times its winter size. It attracts surfers, nature lovers, campers, whale watchers, fishermen, or anyone just looking to be close to nature. In the winter it is not as bustling, however, many people visit Tofino and the west coast to watch storms on the water. Close to Tofino is Long Beach, a scenic and popular year-round destination, at the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve. Nearby Maquinna Marine Provincial Park, with its natural hot springs, is located about 45 kilometres (28 mi) north of Tofino and is also a popular day-trip destination for tourists although it is only reachable by boat or float plane. The world is about to end because of global warming. Temperatures are soaring, ice is melting, glaciers are retreating, seas are rising, and we’re all going to fry. We’re all up to here with worry about it. The Royal Society says there’s no longer any room for scientific doubt about it. Britain’s Chief Scientist says it’s a bigger threat than global terrorism. / Every global warming sceptic is denounced as clinically insane. Every developed nation wags its finger at every other (well, ok then, at America) and tells it to Emit Less. Every politician and B-list celebrity now anxiously measures his or her carbon footprint. Every British schoolchild is now drilled to believe that man-made global warming is a Fact along with poverty and the existence of Belgium. It’s a wonder any of us has any incentive to get up in the morning. :) Online Galleries: / Surrealism art prints / 2d3d graphic design software / 3ds models max software
A gentle piece by Giclee Artist Skye Ryan-Evans. This scene of a lone Polar Bear silently gliding through Arctic waters while an Aurora Borelis shimmers behind him, is serene and unforgettable! Designed as a poignant anti-global warming , anti-oil drilling and anti-hunting statement. 25% of proceeds from sales of this item go to support Defenders of Wildlife, in their valiant efforts to lobby for the proper protection of these magnificent creatures of the ice.

Fochteloerveen belongs to the Society for preservation of nature monuments in the Netherlands, this is a Dutch organisation founded in 1905 that buys, protects and manages nature reserves in the Netherlands. Restoration programma of the Fochteloërveen raised bog! / At the end of the last Ice Age, about 10 000 years ago, an extensive area of peat bogs was created along what is now the Drenthe-Friesland border. For centuries, peat was used for heating on a small scale, but large-scale land clearance for agriculture between 1600 and 1900 fundamentally changed the character of the region. All that was left of this once huge peat resource was the Fochterloërveen (3 000 ha) and a few smaller cores. Even here, the peat degraded and turned into earth after the peat bog was drained for tree-planting and farming (of buckwheat varieties). The result was a monotonous expanse of Molinia grasses. Only in the highest core area was the peat still intact, complete with the vegetation associated with raised bogs. Sufficient peat moss (sphagnum) still grew here to sustain peat formation: it therefore provided a core area from which the entire Fochterloërveen raised bog could be restored. Apart from agricultural activities, this is a lonely, isolated region (the Fochterloërveen itself is surrounded by penal institutes), which in principle made the work of restoration easier. In 1965, the drainage ditches were sealed off and extraneous water was kept out. The task of restoration itself began in the 1980s, with the building of low dykes, creating isolated compartments on the bog surface. The aim was to manage the water levels in each compartment in such a way that peat moss could grow there again. The compartments proved to be too big, however, and the differences in their height above sea level has meant that some are too dry and others too wet. / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / / / Sunset in the Wetland Fochteloerveen / Featured in Amazing Orton Effect , All That Is Nature , Dutch Touch , Canon DSLR, 1 ARTISTS OF REDBUBBLE, The Beauty of the European Waters, That One Great Shot, Digital Photography”:http://www.redbubble.com/groups/digital-photography
/ Medium Size Print/Cherry Frame/Off White Matt Watercolour crayons, watercolour pencils, faber castell pencils, ink, acrylic, wax, gesso acrylic, chalk pastel, pen, charcoal on paper This began as a drawing while on holiday at an island resort, it’s one of those paintings that seemed to have a mind of it’s own, and wanted to be painted a certain way…even though I had different ideas, this is the end result. LOL I was originally going to colour her very gently with wax and soft pastels…but she became more and more vibrant as I went along. Perhaps the colouring says something of how vibrant we become when we are well rested, balanced and relaxed.

The Gentoo Penguin is listed as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red list of Threatened Species Melting sea ice and overfishing have triggered a dangerously rapid decline in penguin populations on the Antarctic peninsula – a direct result of global warming, warns a new report from the WWF. Temperatures on the frozen continent are rising five times faster than the global average due to the unprecedented rate of climate change, pushing four species perilously close to extinction. Warmer temperatures are forcing penguins to raise their young on increasingly thinner and more precarious ice floes, while stronger winds mean many eggs and chicks are being blown away from their parents before they are able to survive on their own. The gentoo, chinstrap and adélie – along with the emperor, the largest penguin species in the world – are now struggling to survive as melting sea ice destroys nesting sites and reduces vital food sources, such as krill.
/ / / original pencil drawing ...stayed up very late drawing “Nature’s Child”... you know when it’s time for a baby to be born, i think it’s very similar with art… the inspiration just comes when it’s ready…and sometimes that means drawing til 3am like i did with this one. ...the drawing took about 3 hours, and the digital colouring took about 5 hours today. ...inspired by some fantastic eyes i’ve seen lately, (drawn by people on RB) and the dear little willy wagtails…they are so cheeky…they aren’t authentic in colour here, because they are always black and white with little markings above the eye…but i have put their essence into the work hopefully. I think this is my favourite so far :) /
