  • This is fine art “ Goddress “ by Sunil Sharma to treat one as Goddess and interconnecting with the divine by Loving, Romancing ,Respecting and servicing yourself which will deliver Peace, Energy, Happiness and Divinity respectively. Finally, spreading that special “Divine Energy” to others and lifting everyone with love and support. / Lets treat our self and others as God and Goddess as everyone has Soul; a divine presence in our bodies and cosmos. As you know wherever you focus it enlarges or magnifies , so lets goodness come out of us by focusing on good values.

  • This is our Double Yellow-Headed Amazon Parrot named, Kellie Bird. / She is nine years old and up to mischief by flying 40 feet up into this cottonwood tree. While the firemen were trying to spray water on her to get her down, I thought I would take advantage of the moment and get her in a more natural setting. She loves being up high in trees and after 1 1/2 hours of persistence with the garden and fire hose with help from the Cameron Park Fire Department, we were successful getting her down. She’s safe and sound.

  • This house was built around 1879 by Leason Gregg. It is thought to be the 1st frame houses built in the cove. It has been shifted and added to over the years. Besides being a home, it has also been a boarding house and store on the 1st floor. Leason bought an acre of land from John P. Cable and built the house. Lumber for its building was sawn on the place. In 1887 Rebecca Cable and her brother Dan bought the place. Rebecca died in 1940 at 96. After her death the house was moved from Forge Creek Road to its present location……This place is found about half way around the Cades Cove Loop Road, GSMNP. Several other structures are located her as well as Cable’s gristmill. A visitor center is also located on the property…..When the park took over they were several frame houses in the cove and park. Since these were NEW houses at the time they were removed.

  • I stand out from the rest. I’m not that different, but yet I am. If you look up my way you’ll notice me. I know you can’t help it when you stare. I wish I fit in with those around me, but I don’t……as the brightest red tree stands out against the evergreens, so do some people from those the rest of the crowd. They may not be gifted with a normal body. They may be of a different intelligence level, race, or just have a vastly different outlook on life. They can be like this red tree. Even though they are different they can be beautiful too. When we encounter someone different than us, we need to look for their beauty, not their differences…..Image taken from the Oconaluftee Valley Overlook, Newfound Gap Road, GSMNP

  • Not a lot of photogenic opportunities today in the Cove. Would need a lot better water resistant camera. The wind is howling but not as bad as when they had to shut the park down a few years ago. Several trees have blown over, and blocked the roads from time to time. The best one is the one that blocked the main road so a few of us got to enjoy the Cove before the drove of tourist got in. Rain is mostly falling in sheets, driven by the wind. A large gust of wind just blew pine needles everywhere and some stuck to the wet road. I don’t know what I like about this shot; it’s not one of my better ones got a lot of motion in the tree limbs. Perhaps the rich color brought out by the rain. Maybe it was the shear joy of sitting here and watch nature kick up her heels. Anyway I took a shot and years down the road, when looking thru old work I’ll come across this shot. I’ll remember the joy I felt this day…hope you like it too……made on Cades Cove Loop Road, GSMNP

  • My little red tree that gave me the thoughts of “Different” also Stands Out from the evergreens around it. We as photographers usually stand out from the, drive by point and shoot crowd. Lots of time we take more time setting up our tripod and camera than they do to stop, shoot, and move on…….I don’t know at the time I’ve been sitting in Cades Cove, reading, when someone would stop, look, snap a shoot and go on. They would be nothing out there, but seeing my camera, tripod, and long lens they would just assume I was shooting something……They can be bothersome at times. They’ll come up and start asking questions while you’re concentrating on a shoot. Even though we may be bothered we can play a big part in spreading the need for things like conservation. By standing out and getting the attention from those around us, we can play a bigger part in saving and preserving what we love to shoot…….So next time you are asked “ are you taking a picture of that”, don’t say “no I’m checking for gamma rays from the space ship that landed last night”. Tell them yes and why we should be helping save Mother Nature….Stand Out Make A Difference. Image taken at the Oconaluftee Valley Overlook, Newfound Gap Rd., Great Smoky Mountain NP

  • I may seem small compared to the rest of my world,I’m not.I stand alone and guard these fields every day and night. I’ve weathered many a storm and drifts of snow. Those that call my field home, rest in my shade on a hot summer day. The birds of the air, make homes amongst my limbs. I’ve stood bare on a cold winter’s night, and felt the scorching summer sun. I give you beautiful shades of green in spring, and am aflame with color in the fall. I’ve watched people struggle to make ends meet, and enjoy lunch in my shade. I am the Guardian and I endure on. As you pass me by, draw on my strength so that you to can endure Image taken in Cades Cove, Great Smoky Mountain NP, this would be my favorite tree in the Cove.

  • This tree remains perhaps where many once stood. Those settling this region in the 1800’s need fields to plant crops. To clear ground for the fields they need to remove the trees and underbrush. They didn’t do this all at once but over a period of time. The saplings and underbrush could be cut away by their axes. A large tree like this was removed by “girdling”. 2 rings were cut around the base of the tree about 6 feet apart. Then all the outer bark was stripped off, causing the tree to die. Once dead it would remain in place till it feel. They were able to plant crops around the tree. In its leafless, dead state sun was allowed to reach the crops. Once it had fallen they could use the wood for cooking and heating. The Cherokee also used similar methods and also would slash and burn areas to remove the dead trees and underbrush…..during the time it took for the tree to die and fall, the many many rocks would be removed and placed in piles or fence rows. This was usually a chore for the kids……………..this I guess is my 2ad favorite tree in Cades Cove,Great Smoky Mountain NP

  • Coming back across Newfound Gap from the NC side of the Smokies, I noticed this view. After passing Morton Overlook I noticed these wispy cirrus clouds. The sky seemed to not want to be out done by the beautiful forest below it. I had gotten up well before daylight to be across and back down the mountain by sunrise. I’m glad I did. The day was filled with wonderful colors of autumn. I was a rejuvenating day, as I was uplifted by the beautiful splendor of nature. The blue sky and wispy clouds above the golden hues were just a small part of it .Hope you enjoy it too…..Image taken on the Tennessee side of Newfound Gap, Great Smoky Mountain NP

  • “Sunbird” Photography & Artwork / by Holly Kempe © I am blessed to enjoy the visits of a friendly little sunbird / that flutters up against my kitchen window early in the / mornings. Flies and gnats that have gathered there are / quickly devoured giving him strength for the coming day. / Tiny wings beat so fast they appear to be just a blur of / movement through the windows glass pane. / He suddenly disappears….. just as quickly as he / appeared, he departs, onto his next serving of breakfast. / I was lucky enough to capture this little fellow in a friend’s / garden. Although not ‘my’ wee sunbird, he was just as / charming and very considerate to sit still long enough / for me to get this shot. “If I keep a green bough in my heart, / the singing bird will come.” / ~ Chinese Proverb

  • I have this cinneraria plant growing in my kitchen’s plant window…. just a taste of spring for you. Enjoy!

  • “Rise Above” Photography & Artwork / by Holly Kempe © A surreal depiction of an eagle flying above an unforgiving landscape of tangled trees towards the rising sun. “Doubt yourself and you doubt everything you see. / Judge yourself and you see judges everywhere. / But if you listen to the sound of your own voice, / you can rise above doubt and judgment. / And you can see forever.” / ~ Nancy Lopez

  • “Dinner Time” Photography & Artwork / by Holly Kempe © Out in our boat, we spotted something floating in / the water about half way across a 2km wide river…. / it turned out to be our little friend here, the echidna. He kindly let me photograph him before we took him to the bank / where he meandered quietly back into the scrub. “Why don’t echidnas get sick?” “Because they are full of ‘antibodies”. Competition: Top Ten of the Woman Photographer group challenge – Oddly Fantastic.

  • “Froggy Heaven” Photography & Artwork / by Holly Kempe © One of Australia’s largest frogs (a White Lipped Tree frog) resting on a rock amongst reeds beside a golden pond, looking at his next feed of fly sitting on his nose while seemingly immune to the swarms of flies and mosquitoes buzzing around him. “Why are frogs so happy?” “They eat whatever bugs them.”

  • “Eggs for Breakfast” Photography & Artwork / by Holly Kempe © A Mertens’ Water Monitor (Varanus mertensi) enjoys a delicious meal of egg using his long tongue to devour its contents.

  • Today, I decided to go to Lake Balboa (a park/small lake) after therapy and walk around for exercise and take some pics. I wanted to try that HDR stuff again. This area has these beautiful pink trees, I mean gorgeous! I took 3 shots, one normal and the other two +2 and -2 and merged them in Photoshop CS4 then adjusted the levels. Canon 40D, Natural Light HDR’d :) I will master this LOL!! I WILL :)

  • Rolls of wonderful colours from my senamy collection that I use for the design and creation of my millinery pieces (hats). / My hats are mostly custom-made and I’ve done commissions for commercial sponsorship, for weddings, for television drama and for many race-goers. It is such wonderful material to work with. It comes in rolls of many different colours as well as lurex threaded, waffle weave and multi-coloured textured variety. Senamy is a woven material made from the grasses at the base of the banana tree and has become one of the most popular materials in millinery (hat-making) in recent years as it is a natural fibre, dyes really well and is very workable. Featured in First Things – 15th May 2009. ARTWORK FROM IRELAND. / Samples of My Millinery
