Acrylic On Canvas Concept: Phoebe basking in the glory of sunflowers, their presence giving her the strength and courage to live life like these admirable flowers . I was thinking of an ex-colleague cum friend when I was painting this and I want to dedicate this painting to her too. I hope she will be as brave as these sunflowers….which turn their heads towards the sun and not shy away, their heads tracking the position of the sun from dawn to dusk. Likewise, she can be like them….celebrating life’s ups and downs in a courageous fashion :D View other “Courage” creations at my Zazzle store:
Brown bear aka Grizzly bear (Ursus horribilis), captive zoo animal, digitally accented Wilderness lost The victims of human beings come in all shapes and sizes, from the largest to the small. Gone are the days of grizzlies roaming the prairies of North America for roots and wolf pack leftovers. Everything associated with the prairies is turned to dust, blown to the corners of the globe. One has to travel far to seek out the last truly wild places, those nooks of nature that only the sun and clouds visit with regularity. Someday they too will be but a destination on someone’s itinerary. The wandering, restless soul keeps wild places in their hearts, and when they venture forth into the wood they feel the ripples of time and days gone by flowing like the unstoppable river throughout the hollow skeleton of what once was a place of mystery and passion. The great bears have been pushed to the limit, needing protection even in their remaining strongholds, where man is still a visitor. Golden aspens and billowing birch trees, where the sky is the only rooftop and every direction provides a window. We seek so much to regain the things we destroy, in nature and in love, so why should we weep at the humbleness and sad truth of a mighty creature napping in a concrete jungle? Because one glimpse into its eyes reveals the genes forged from rivers and floods, mountains and valleys, winters of endless desolation and summers of famine and frivolity with cubs. Wilderness was a catch phrase, now it is but a ghost, and time marches on leaving the ramshackled remnants of a once great species. Mighty bear, the hunter, the spirit, symbol of what was and still should be American Wilderness. He, the gentile beast, should spend lazy days napping and berry picking and sratching in thickets of tender alders, pondering as only a wild bear ponders the cottonwood seeds. And yet this is not the way the story goes, this bear goes by the name of Bruce. “The idea of wilderness needs no defense, it only needs defenders.” / -Edward Abbey /

In North America, the eagle was considered great medicine power. To the Native Americans there were different kinds and divisions of eagles. The golden eagle had a very high rank. The most potent and magical was the sky eagle which the Iroquois called Shadahgeyah. Among the Hopi, the eagle god was Kwahu and according to legend, this great bird seldom came below the clouds; only the holiest of shamans ever saw it. Even the Aztecs said this bird represented celestial power and the rising Sun. / Nearly every Native American tribe had an eagle clan. They had songs to the eagle, eagle dances, eagle ceremonies, and even eagle secret societies. If an eagle was seen or even dreamed of during a vision quest, the seeker gained special medicine or spirit power. The person then had the privelege of using the eagle symbol on a medicine shield. The eagle had the greatest power of all birds and was associated with the Sun. They believed it could live in both the spiritual and the earth realms. The Eagle and the Hawk by John Denver inspired this work of two photos merged in Photoshop7.
As is photo of Bald Eagle visiting us… When the earth was young / And the air was sweet / And the mountains kissed the sky / In the great beyond, with its many paths / Man and nature lived side by side In this wilderness of danger and beauty / Lived three brothers, bonded by love / Their hearts full of joy / They ask now for guidance / Reaching out to the skies up above Great Spirits of all who lived before / Take our hands and lead us / Fill our hearts and souls / With all you know / Show us that in your eyes / We are all the same / Brothers to each other / In this world we remain truly / Brothers all the same Give us wisdom to pass to each other / Give us strength so we understand / That the things we do / The choices we make / Give direction to all life’s plans To look in wonder / At all we’ve been given / In a world that’s not always as it seems / Every corner we turn / Only leads to another / A journey ends, but another begins Great Spirits of all who lived before / Take our hands and lead us / Fill our hearts and souls / With all you know / Show us that in your eyes / We are all the same / Brothers to each other / In this world we remain truly / Brothers all the same Brothers all the same Lyrics from Brother Bear Soundtrack, sung by Tina Turner Great Spirits This is how I’m feeling about my friendships here and now ;)
This is a digital collage. I created the background with FraxPlorer, altered it in PSP, using filters and then added photos which again i altered in PSP, and by using filters. The Blue Horse in a Cage… represents Nature. Presumably caged, tamed, locked away, safe… but that is an illusion. Nature is always stronger than we are, we cannot tame it, nor can we control it. When Nature unleashes her forces, we are powerless… thanks for stock goes to: Lockstock / IWS-Stock / Stock-by-Kai
Oil on board. ORIGINAL SOLD / I tried to capture the strength and the regal quality of this amazing bird. While soaring over an updraft one Eagle will fly beneath the other and turn upside down to show its talons. They will then sometimes grasp each other’s claws and tumble over and over in what appears to be either a mating routine or perhaps just play… A privilege to watch! / I have watched them in pairs at Mount Kaputar. On the linked page click on the photo to get a great enlarged view. Whole page of photo’s here. / Thanks to Mark Pound for the photographs. Below – Golden Eagle

Like water, be gentle and strong. Be gentle enough to / follow the natural paths of the earth, and strong enough / to rise up and reshape the world. / -Brenda Peterson Water fascinates me….the stillness of the lake in the early morning….the gentle lapping of waves on the beach…..the powerful rush of the river on its way to the ocean…. This shot was taken yesterday at Copeland Falls in Rocky Mountain National Park where the roar of the river is overwhelming at times, the mist in the air is cool and refreshing, and the gentleness and strength of water is at its finest. Part of the journey is about finding the balance….gentle strength….
Influence of nature. Graceful curves. The wispy lines resambles branches and leaf motif on this piece. Enjoy it!
