Still life photograph of little flower and stacked stones set on an incense tray. Mixed media print on gouache stained and acrylic and Inkaid primed Japanese Kinwashi paper. Red ink stamped Chinese characters mean: Study, Dream, and Love. 11” x 17”. The original file was shot with a Lensbaby. The image was printed on Urara paper then scanned. That file was printed onto the altered Kinwashi substrate.

A photograph with “home made P.S.” the only difference is that the objects were live, hand picked and hand applied. It was made with layers of nature, reflections and things around the house. /

One of my first photos on the Shen Hao camera, taken round at Crail harbour in Fife. / I placed myself right on the water’s edge, looking down as the tide came in and superimposed 3 exposures on the one frame to give the effect of water lapping around the rocks like mist. I think the red rock is carboniferous sandstone.

Canon 10D / 17-40mmL Antelope Canyon is the most-visited and most-photographed slot canyon in the American Southwest. It is located on Navajo land near Page, Arizona. Antelope Canyon formed over the course of millions of years by erosion of the Navajo Sandstone, primarily due to flash flooding and secondarily due to wind erosion. Rainwater (especially during monsoon season) runs into the wash that Antelope Canyon is part of, picking up speed and sand as it rushes through the narrow passageways. Over time the passageways are eroded away, making the corridors wider and smoothing hard edges in such a way as to form characteristic ‘flowing’ shapes in the rock. Lower Antelope Canyon, called Hasdeztwazi, or “spiral rock arches” by the Navajo, is located a few kilometers away from the upper Antelope Canyon and is a more difficult hike. I saw the reflection of that “prisoned” tree in the window, while I was enjoying a mountain climb here in Macedonia, a moment before i could see it free. It gave me a thought of what are we doing to our mother nature and couldn’t resist to pull the shutter of my camera as a modest contribution to a free green planet.

I can still remember my very first camera that my parents had given to me when I was about 8 years old. I took that camera everywhere and snapped shots of anything and everything, however it wasn’t until much later in life that I was really bitten by the photography bug. I was planning a big move to the Canadian Rockies and thought now is the perfect time to buy my new camera gear for shooting wildlife. I bought all the equipment I needed that would put me up close with all the wildlife that the mountains had to offer. So off I went chasing Bears, Bighorn sheep, Moose, Elk and Wolves… pretty much any critter I could capture with my lens. It was a fascinating and thrilling experience. Then fate brought to me a girl and she would change my life forever… Newfoundland is where I now call home, with my beautiful wife and baby son. This province is a photographer’s paradise. The scenes change from day to day and the opportunities for capturing them are endless. Background Information: / Moraine Lake is a glacially fed lake in Banff National Park, 14 kilometres outside the Village of Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada. It is situated in the Valley of the Ten Peaks, at an elevation of approximately 6183 feet (1884 m). The lake has a surface area of 0.5 km². The lake, being glacially fed, does not reach its crest until mid to late June. However, when it is full, it is a beautiful shade of blue. The lake gets its color from the refraction of light off the rock flour deposited in the lake on a continual basis. When Brownie was alive we’d ride our bikes through the dry heat and down the red dirt tracks, tires popping as pebbles flew from our paths, always a hot wind harsh and unfriendly. How I hated that wind. Somehow as children though, we overcome things like this, death and heat, sometimes as adults it’s harder. / At the river we’d gather the stones that had been shaped by the water that ran forever through the valley. Its a trickle now, with the years of drought that followed. But I see it as it was, a brown green snake slithering and winding, seemingly never ending. / Once the stones had been rocks and boulders, hills or cliffs by the ocean. Something for man and animal to stand on up high, or perch, bearers to things seemingly unreachable, but now they were small and worn, carried and tumbled and rounded into submissive pebbles. All semblance of might long gone. / When we had a pile we’d skim them. Counting the bounces, seeing who could throw furthest, bounce highest. Now the stones from our hands were glorious things, slicing through the air and slicking off the water, shooting and arcing. / Alive once again. Michael Douglass, 2009.

A storm had just passed over Watkins Glen and the warm sun was braking through the misty air in the glen. Watkins Glen State Park is located in the Finger Lakes region of New York, at the southern end of Seneca Lake. This image was captured with a Canon EOS DSLR / Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L lens. The focal length was 21mm, ISO was set at 400 with an f/8 aperture and shutter speed of 1/30 sec. Background Information: / Side is one of the best-known classical sites in Turkey, and was an ancient harbour whose name meant pomegranate. Side is a resort town on the southern coast of Turkey, near the villages of Manavgat and Selimiye, 75 km from Antalya) in the province of Antalya. It is located on the eastern part of the Pamphylian coast, which lies about 20 km east of the mouth of the Eurymedon River. Alexander the Great occupied Side without a struggle in 333 BC. Alexander left only a single garrison behind to occupy the city. This occupation, in turn, introduced the people of Side to Hellenistic culture of the Greek Civilization, which flourished from the fourth century to the first century BC. After Alexander’s death, Side fell under the control of one of Alexander’s generals, Ptolemy I Soter, who declared himself king of Egypt in 305 BC. The Ptolemaic dynasty controlled Side until it was captured by the Seleucid Empire in the second century BC. Yet, despite these occupations, in the following years of the second century BC, Side managed to preserve some autonomy, grew prosperous, and became an important cultural center. / / / original pencil drawing ...stayed up very late drawing “Nature’s Child”... you know when it’s time for a baby to be born, i think it’s very similar with art… the inspiration just comes when it’s ready…and sometimes that means drawing til 3am like i did with this one. ...the drawing took about 3 hours, and the digital colouring took about 5 hours today. ...inspired by some fantastic eyes i’ve seen lately, (drawn by people on RB) and the dear little willy wagtails…they are so cheeky…they aren’t authentic in colour here, because they are always black and white with little markings above the eye…but i have put their essence into the work hopefully. I think this is my favourite so far :) /
