  • 100% OF ALL PROCEEDS FROM SALES OF MY ART OR DONATED ART GOES TO PHILADELPHIA MISSION, A REGISTERED CHARITY. WE WORK WITH EXTREME POOR SICK AND DISABLED IN ISOLATED AND RURAL AFRICAN VILLAGES. This is Violet aged 15 years old. She works in the fields from sunrise to sunset. Her Parents are dead. Violet works the small plot of land hoping to grow enough food for herself, her three younger brothers and sick Grandfather. she has a disability caused by Rickets, a disease that is common here. Her upper and lower limbs are bowed outwards. Yet Violet must force herself to work, or her dependants will starve. Please help us to help her and many more like her. This poem was beautifully written by a very talented poet and Writer called Adgray. God Bless you for wring this fitting piece . Does she dream of dancing and movies and fun / this girl with the faraway eyes / Has she the wish to kiss Brad Pit / Did she cry when Heath Ledger died? / What does she wish for when Christmas comes? / an ipod or mobile phone? / Does she complain there’s no chocolate again / in the fridge when she gets home. We complain we don’t have enough to survive / Money to cover our bills / and purchase the service and goods we desire / AND the luxury home in the hills / But where does it say life must be this way / That we have and she has not / That our world be of greed luxury and games / and hers of pain and hard lot. I look in the depths of these faraway eyes / and I think of my own teenage life / How I struggled with that I was expected to do / and rebelliously got into strife / I look at my own daughter of fifteen years / And know how I fiercely protect her / I support all her learnings and all her dreams / and use all my wisdom to guide her. But they are similar these girls far apart / for my daughter also cares for her home / She looks out for her younger siblings as well / and is rarely allowed to roam. And I wonder if having is really a curse / for to have not enough creates stress / equal to that of not enough food / but granted the consequence is less I shall show all my children these faraway eyes / for this girl is also one of their peers / their ages are similar their wants must compare / how I long to abate all her tears / I cannot succeed in my western world life / I struggle myself to survive / But oh how I wish I could lavish life’s gifts / On those beckoning faraway eyes. • For the “God’s Signature” challenge. As soon as I read that there was to be a ‘God’s Signature’ challenge, this tree immediately came to mind. I call it the Cruciform Tree. It is a well-known tree in Malta. it is situated on the main road we refer to as ‘Rabat Road’. People sometimes light a candle or two, or place flowers at this extraordinary tree. For this picture, I lightened the ‘cruciform’ slightly so it would be more visible. No manipulations to the actual tree at all. This is a sculpture of nature. To me this truly is God’s signature! The below is a link to another image of this tree. My dear RB friends, I appreciate your comments greatly! I prefer to reciprocate them rather than thank you individually so please do not be offended by my lack of replies here. I shall be commenting on your work instead. Thank you all… Astrid x

  • Nature improved? /

  • Another shot of what I call the Cruciform Tree. This tree is a sculpture of nature. It is situated in Malta, vicinty of Rabat on the main road leading to it from the direction of Attard. I posted this one in addition th my previous BW shot because it shows the actual tree better I think. Just to prove to you its a real tree :) The below is a link to the BW image. There are absolutely no manipulations in this shot. Just the standard tweaking of colour and levels.

  • This began as a photo of an actual “Secret Garden” my husband and I found on one of our “Date Days”, there were wood sculptures of insects and many levels of an array of beautiful flowers. This dragonfly sculpture stood watch above the garden and I played with many flower photos and a few fairies to greate the magic that unleashes within my mind’s eye…and voila ;) “In my garden there is a large place for sentiment, my garden of flowers is also my garden of thoughts and dreams. The thoughts grow as freely as flowers, and the dreams are as beautiful.” Abram L. Urban / /

  • “Mother Nature’s sculpture” was featured in the groups / Unconventional Artistry / American Southwest / The Art of Intrigue / and The Great Outdoors One of “The Seven Sisters”, as these huge rock formations are called. Photo taken in the Valley of Fire, Nevada, USA, beginning of December 2008, with m y Canon PowerShot S5 IS camera. Information from Wikipedia: / Valley of Fire State Park is Nevada’s oldest State Park. It covers an area of 34,880 acres (141 km²) and was dedicated in 1935. Valley of Fire is located 50 miles (80 km) northeast of Las Vegas at an elevation of between 2,000 and 2,600 feet (610 and 790 m). It abuts the Lake Mead National Recreation Area at the Virgin River confluence. It lies in a basin 4 miles (6 km) wide by 6 miles (10 km) long, 15 miles (24 km) southwest of Clark County, Nevada. The rough floor and jagged walls of the park contain brilliant formations of eroded sandstone and sand dunes more than 150 million years old. These features, which are the centerpiece of the park’s attractions, often appear to be on fire when reflecting the sun’s rays. The Valley of Fire derives its name from red sandstone formations, formed from great shifting sand dunes during the age of dinosaurs. Complex uplifting and faulting of the region, followed by extensive erosion, have created the present landscape. Other important rock formations include limestones, shales, and conglomerates. / / Prehistoric users of the Valley of Fire included the Ancient Pueblo Peoples, also known as the Anasazi who were farmers from the nearby fertile Moapa Valley. The span of approximate occupation has been dated from 300 B.C. to 1150 A.D. Their visits probably involved hunting, food gathering, and religious ceremonies, although scarcity of water would have limited the length of their stay. Fine examples of rock art left by these ancient peoples can be found at several sites within the park.

  • Taken while traveling through remote Nigeria in Niger Delta Region. This young boy came running towards our vehicle and we stopped for a welcome break, after 7 hours of bumpy dusty tracks. He wanted to sell us one of his animals. I felt so sorry for him, that I give him what he asked, after being told by one of our Missionary guides he had asked the going price. I refused to take his animal, as I felt we had enough food, and he looked so thin. After this he insisted that I should visit his settlement. After much persuasion with the team We did. None had heard about Jesus and his Love. All received Jesus as Lord. We also were able to give multi-vitamin tablets to the senior elder, and he promised to give each one a Tablet every day. It was a blessing. We now have a Local Missionary who visits the settlement each week. 100% of all proceeds from sale of my art goes toward helping the extreme poor, sick and isolated in villages in Africa.. • PLEASE READ THIS. Taken in remote Nigeria. I and the team were waiting for the ferry to cross then Nile and continue our long journey to Tunga Zuga Village in kebbe state. Often my work as a missionary, working with extreme poor and sick children can be very emotional.Tears of sorrow and heartbreak, desperation and frustration overwhelm me as I and the small mission team do what we can with the little we have to help. yet there are times like this one when there is joy and happiness as I see people and scenes of great beauty. Truly God has blessed me with a wonderful life. I have never had the joy of owning my own home, or having a nice car or wealth. yet I am so happy to have a relationship with Jesus.God supplies all my needs, and I have travelled with God to many villages and he has blessed many. Life is more than a job,Career, wealth or designer cloths. Life is living in Gods presence everyday and experiencing his love and peace. Life for me is doing what is in Gods heart and that is helping the extreme poor. My Inspiration and passion is from God. I Live for him and he lives through me. I have been on mission and not a penny in my pocket, yet my heavenly father has met my needs, concerning Food, lodging, travel and covered all expenses. One one occasion, he sent an angel to pay my hotel bill. While in India The Lord moved me so much to travel overnight on a train, a day early to return to London. If I had not obeyed his leading, I would have been killed in a terrorist bombing. Its a wonderful Life with God. • [Taken in Natural Light]. Taken on the banks of the river Nile, remote Nigeria. I got into conversation with this Muslim girl and I felt s deep compassion for her, as she said She sells peanuts to get money to help her Grandfather who cares for her and her brother and two sisters. Her mother is dead and when she died the father just left and never returned. She told me that she only sold three packets that day and she was selling from around 10 am to 7pm. She did not make enough even to buy basic foods. She spoke good English so I knew she had had some education. I and my fellow mission workers bought what she had left. Then I asked her If I could pray for her. She said yes. I asked God to open her heard adn reveal himself to her. We led to to Christ. She wept and the lord really did touch her. We now visit her village often. All proceeds from sale of my art, or donations made via our charity website goes to help extreme poor and sick in remote and rural villages of Africa. • For a recent exhibition we were given the theme “Arrivals and Departures” In Response I used the words of poet Reverend Father Ernesto Cardenal Martínez (born January 20, 1925) as my starting point. “A universe harmonious as a harp. / Rhythm is repeated equal times. / Heartbeat. / Day/night. / Migrant birds’ arrivals and departures. / Star cycles and maize cycles. / Mimosa opening during the day / and folding when night comes. / Moon and tide rhythms. / And crabs who know the tide is on the ebb / and before it goes out have their hiding holes. / A single rhythm in planets, the sea, atoms, apples / which ripen and fall, and Newton’s head. / Melody, arpeggio, chord. / The harp of the universe. “ I responded with a sculpture of assemblage.

Buying laminated prints is an easy way of providing encouragement to the artist, and still having change for that huge mounted print for the living room. Definitely the “impulse buy” of the art world. / Canvas Print: / We’re using Canson Canvas, an Epson printer and Epson pigment inks to ensure a quality product that will look great and last forever. All canvas prints have a water-based clear lacquer applied to them as a UV barrier and to protect the canvas prints from scuffing. It also makes them easier to clean! All canvas prints are mounted on hardwood (Eucalyptus Regnans to be exact) for a sturdy frame. / Water Drop Photography by michalfanta / The photograph of the collision of two water drops is considered as contemporary fine art.
