Peacock butterfly (Inachis io) / Picture taken below the M8 motorway, on the outskirts (West) of Glasgow, Scotland. / August 7th 2009. Verrrrrry long story behind this shot: (you’ve been warned) I stumbled across this little beauty on an area of waste ground below the M8 motorway, on the outskirts of Glasgow, while I was taking some pictures for wee project I’m doing on graffiti and street art. / I was in the process of changing lenses for a shot, when I just happened to look up and see him/her sitting 4 or 5 feet away on some grass. / Too good an opportunity to miss I thought. / Unfortunately this particular Peacock butterfly was a little camera ‘shy’. / Every time I got within any kind of shooting distance, off he or she flew, just far enough away to keep me interested. / After about 10 minutes of me carefully watching and following through long grass and overgrown bushes, he/she finally settled down on THIS rather uninspiring piece of ground, just long enough for me to fire off 2 quick shots before disappearing into the distance. I searched in vain for another 10 minutes or so, before giving in and returning to my original project, feeling pretty disappointed with my efforts. A full 30 minutes later I spotted another one. I wasn’t even sure whether or not to bother but ….... / Anyway, this one pretty much just sat down and posed on some nettles for about a minute or so and I managed to get a few frames that I was relatively happy with. (See other image of same name) It wasn’t until I got home and looked at all the images in more in detail, that I noticed the exact same little ‘bite’ out of the tip of the left hind wing of both butterflies. see other shot. I guess he or she must have got over the initial shyness, felt a bit sorry for me, and come back for a few more shots. :-)
this image is taken from the same spot as my other eddrachillis image, on the stoer peninsula in assynt, sutherland , scotland. this one has a differing light and exposure.
A Horse, Shetland Pony image. Not so long a go spring and summer finaly arrived, this is a Shetland Pony in a spring meadow with wild flowers including butter cups and tall grasses. These bright yellow flowers made for a really striking image of the unsuspecting Shetland Pony we see here. This is a happy image bright with promise, life, new beginnings and looking forward to the future.
