The rain forest area of the Otway Ranges has some of the most spectacular waterfalls and lush fern covered walks. / They do require some effort to access, particularly the walk back up, but they are magnificent locations to visit.
While it’s possible to be disappointed by the hordes of thronging tourists, I don’t think it’s possible to overplay the spectacular natural beauty of Yosemite Valley. I have travelled in over 40 countries and found few places that rival it for jaw-dropping-ness. Again I was blessed with perfect light this morning, catching the early sunlight kissing the faces of the rock around Yosemite Falls, that vibrant spring green of the meadows, and the swollen water as it tumbled down the cliff-face. I spent less than 24 hours in the park, and I ache to head back there someday and spend some proper time there, because it really took my heart… May 2007.

Background Information: / This picture is taken near Athabasca Falls . Athabasca Falls in Jasper National Park is just 23 metres high. However, it is not known for its height. Instead it is known for the force of the falling water due to the quantity of water flowing. Even on a cold morning in the fall, copious amounts of water flow over the falls. A layer of hard quartzite has allowed the falls to cut into the softer limestone below carving the short gorge and a number of potholes. White water rafting often starts below the falls to travel downstream on the Athabasca River to Jasper, Alberta. It is a class 5 waterfall, with a drop of 80 ft (24 m) and a width of 60 ft (18 m). We should be as water… which is lower than all things… yet stronger even than the rocks…. Oglala Lakota (Sioux) Lion Slide Falls is located outside of Redding, in Northern Calfornia… it’s also called Hatchet Creek Falls by locals….
In the spring (late May,) Bridalveil Fall in Yosemite National Park is at its best! The water is coming down hard if the winter ice has done its melting and is amazing to photograph up close… Many afternoons you can see great colors in a rainbow near the bottom of the falls and the water spray is invigorating! The Bridalveil Creek can also provide a great photo opportunity as you walk up the viewpoint. However, there are many views of the valley and this great fall such as at or near the Wawona Tunnel where this photograph was taken early in the morning to capture the fog layters over the valley. You can also hike to Artist Point or travel to Bridalveil View which also shows Ribbon Falls. Some more Information (source Wiki) / The Ahwahneechee tribe believed that Bridalveil Fall was home to a vengeful spirit named Pohono which guarded the entrance to the valley, and that those leaving the valley must not look directly into the waterfall lest they be cursed. They also believed inhaling the mist of Bridalveil Fall would improve one’s chances of marriage.

Royal National Park is just 32 km south of Sydney, Australia. It is the secondest oldest national park in the world, being declared soon after Yellowstone in 1879. These images were taken over a 2 year period and represent my attempts to capture some of the incredible beauty of this magnificent park. All the images are real – no elements have been edited in.
A backlit waterfall in the very scenic Emerald Pools area of Zion National Park in Utah, This image was captured while hiking in April of 2008 and a park ranger informed me that the falls were flowing as heavily as he had seen in many years. I finally redid the HDR on this one. Hope everyone likes it. I totally dig it although the I kept the original darker one as my desktop picture (cause it looks great on my mac but apparently is too dark on a PC). Rock on all and let me know what you think. Seriously please critique this one for me. This photo has been driving me nuts since the original HDR was too dark. 5 exposure HDR processed in photomatix. Unsharp mask in GIMP.
