The symbolism of this image is deep. Man against nature, his arrogance even when dwarfed by the age and strength of nature. / This was taken in Arches National Park at Delicate Arch in the Fall of 2005. There are many photographs of Delicate Arch and I didn’t want to duplicate what had already been done. With a man dressed in a black suit, he appears in a unique vision of the famed Delicate Arch stepping out from another time and place.

The day summer arrived and it got stinking hot. This shot was taken at 5am and not a cloud in sight. The days temperature climbed up to 40.2°C in Brisbane. Summer is over is just over a week. This morning was certainly what I would expect in winter, crisp, vibrant and cloudless. Keep it coming…love it

Taken from the parking lot at Clingmans Dome,GSMNP. The mountain was named for Brigadier General Thomas Lanier Clingman, by Arnold Guyot a geographer. Clingman in the 1850’s was the first to accurately measure the height of the mountain. The mountain was called Kuwa’hi (the mulberry place) by the Cherokee. A long time ago someone dropped a few massive boulders into a picturesque turquoise pool near Denmark/Western Australia. Today these rocks are called Elephant Rocks and are part of the William Bay National Park. The day was horrible, persistant rain and heavy showers ( I’ve been told there is a difference ) and blowing a gale. I noticed a break in the clouds on the horizon and took a gamble that it would clear around sunset. I high-tailed it up to the forest and was blessed, for once, with the most amazing lighting I’d ever seen. The New Forest pony was the icing on the cake as far as I was concerned. I used a Canon 20D and a Sigma 10-20mm lens. This was shot in Raw and processed using PS CS2. The processing was: change colour balance / levels / curves / slightly lighten the pony and land with an adjustment layer / sharpen / save This was taken in the New Forest National Park in Southern England.

I kept returning to this spot, night after night, sometimes it was raining or misty and other nights were simply ideal though a tad chilly … This spectacular natural rock arch, sculpted by weathering and erosion from the sea over thousands of years is well worth visiting. Here you can also observe a colony of New Zealand Fur-seals as they feed, swim and laze on the shore platform below. If you cannot see them you can sure smell them ! The Fenland Trail in the morning affords a good opportunity to see wildlife moving around the marsh and river areas. This trail connects to the Bow River Trail which actually goes all the way into Banff townsite proper. If you have time, this is a nice easy walk to get to this area without actually having to drive to get to it. The Vermillion Lakes are slightly to the west of the Fenland Trail and you can either walk to them or drive your car and use the pulloffs available. It’s a bit noisy being so close to the Trans Canada Hwy, but the scenery more than makes up for it. Throughout the day you’ll see numerous waterfowl frequenting the area. The real draw, however, is in the evening when the winds are low and the water is still, making the lake surface a mirror reflection of the now beautifully lit Mt Rundle in the background. Surely one of the most treasured spots to sit and watch as a new day breaks. Lake Louise, Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada / July, 2009 Lake Louise, set in the Banff National Park in Canada is perhaps known as the Diamond of the Rockies for no other reason than its sheer beauty alone. Having arrived in Canada on the previous afternoon after a long trans-Atlantic flight, the idea to beat the effects of jet lag were adopted with a 3am alarm call and the chance to shoot Lake Louise in all its splendour at dawn. Following a 45 mins drive from Banff accompanied along the way with storms over the mountains lighting the otherwise black night sky, we arrived at Lake Louise in good time for sunrise. Some may know the lake as a bustling tourist spot with coaches coming and going throughout the day. Dropping off their cargo at the water’s edge to take in the majesty of Louise before whisking them off to a further destination all to the sound of clicking shutters and the gentle whir of digital handy-cams. For Claire and I the experience was to sit alone in silence; the only guests at Natures matinee performance… The dedication to early starts could not be better rewarded.

Taken in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, USA. Pretty much a tourist snapshot of the Falls, which I thought I would share with you ! / A rather crowded place, justifiably so, who wouldn’t want to see this sight ? The Canyon has some amazing colours, and I found the best time was towards evening to be viewed at it’s best. The vertiginous slopes are very loose and crumbly, and I wondered how those trees maintain their perilous foothold !! Shot on a Canon EOS 40D, polariser, tripod, f22, 1/3 sec, iso 100, auto wb, RAW file processed in PS CS3, levels/curves/selective colour adjustments.
