In February 2009, this image placed third in the U.S. Parks Wildlife Shots challenge hosted by the AMERICA’s National Parks and WILDLIFE Habitat group. A thousand Yellowstone wonders are calling, ‘Look up and down and round about you! John Muir – 1898 The temperatures were in the single digits on this cold, snowy January morning at West Thumb Geyser Basin, which is one of the smallest geyser basins in Yellowstone. A incredibly scenic area along the shore of Yellowstone Lake, West Thumb only has a small amount of geyser activity. However, the basin more than makes up for it with its diversity. Despite its small size, it has paint/mud pots, hot springs, pools, lake shore geysers, and fumaroles. Fumaroles are small openings that release steam and other gasses. You can see in the foreground the muddy, soupy waters inundating the paint pots. The white area beyond the tree line in the right hand side of the photograph is Yellowstone Lake. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Please don’t copy or download this image. This is a photograph taken of Vernal falls, Yosemite National Park from the top of the Mist trail. The Trail starts near Happy Isle and winds its way up along the Merced River. There are basically 3 stages of where to take photographs from. The first stage is from the wooden bridge. This gives you a really nice long view of the Merced River, some nice twists in the river, and a view from a distance of the falls. The second stage is about half way up the John Muir trailhead which allows you to venture out over some large boulders and get some awesome “rushing” water images and still see the falls. The last stage is near the top where this photograph was taken and allows you to get up close to the falls and see some of the moss and rocks and mist as the waterfall clearly exposes itself. Vernal Falls is the most dangerous of all the falls at Yosemite National Park. There are a lot of slippery rocks and moss even on the trail and some of the steps are wet. This entire hike is well worth it and remember to take photographs at each of the stages. At the end, you can also check out Emerald Pool and the Silver Apron. After visiting the beautiful Cambewarra Lookout in the Morton National Park south of Sydney, you can meander down the mountain towards Nowra and this is the type of panoramic scenery you will find … Smoke haze is evident here from the bushfires further into the Morton National Park at the time. ~ Twin Falls ~ Trail head at Camp Orr in the Buffalo River Wilderness, Arkansas Usa. / The beautiful picturesque Twin Falls now has an added beauty right beside it due to all the rain we have had in the last month. Shot this photo in the pouring rain, using my uni pod, and with my camera on auto, and of course the umbrella was a must! LOL! It was quite the challenge steadying the camera, juggling the umbrella, all the while with the lightning flashing, and the forest canape swirling in the strong winds of the storm, which caused tornadoes in many surrounding areas. By the time I finished this shoot I was soaked to the bone, but this shot and the many others I shot were all worth every moment. BUT MY CAMERA REMAINED DRY!!!!!! / I am real happy with the silky water, as I have no means to set my camera for timed shots. / Taken 5-8-09
