  • Taken In Jousha Tree National Park. It was slightly before sunset and it was great 3 day trip in early April 2008. Taken with my Canon G9 (which is an amazing little box). This place has to be seen to be appreciated. It’s like no place else on earth. Located in the High Desert Southern California and with a landscape unique in the world. Highly recommended!

  • Featured in “National Parks of the World” – June 2009. Featured in “Rocks and Stones” – November 2009. Here in one of the hottest places on earth, large rocks appear to race one another around a dry lake bed leaving long trails behind them and small piles of dried mud in front of them. No one has seen them move but the evidence shows that they do…somehow. The practical theory is that the combination of seasonal heavy rains and very high speed winds can push these rocks, sometimes weighing as much as the average person, across the slippery muddy surface of the usually dry lake. On cold winter nights, sheets of ice probably also contribute to the movement of these “sailing stones.” [Wikipedia entry – Racetrack Playa] [U.S. National Park Service website] / Copyright © 2004 Brian W. The Kangaroo is one of Australia’s most iconic animals, and most species are endemic to Australia. There are over 60 different species of Kangaroo and their close relatives, with all Kangaroos belonging to the super family Macropodoidea (or macropods, meaning ‘great-footed’). The super family is divided into the Macropodidae and the Potoroidae families. / The Macropodidae (macropod) family includes Kangaroos, Wallabies, Wallaroos, Pademelons, Tree-Kangaroos and Forest Wallabies. Species in the macropod family vary greatly in size and weight, ranging from 0.5 kilograms to 90 kilograms. The Potoroinae (potoroid) family of Kangaroos includes the Potoroo, Bettong and Rat-Kangaroo, which live only in Australia. / Kangaroos of different types live in all areas of Australia, from cold-climate areas and desert plains, to tropical rainforests and beaches. • Blossom’s_Photo_Gallery Recherche Bay As Is – Straight from the Camera We had our lunch at this beautiful little spot at Recherche Bay near Cockle Creek. Southwest National Park, Tasmania, Australia – Southern Ocean. Recherche Bay is located on the extreme south-eastern corner of Tasmania, Australia and was a landing place of the d’Entrecasteaux expedition to find missing explorer La Perouse. It is named after one of the expedition’s ships. In 2003, the private landowners of the D’Entrentrecasteaux expedition site sought permission to selectively log the area resulting in a large-scale campaign to protect the site from destruction. A section of its south-eastern foreshore is part of the Southwest National Park, but until recently a densely wooded peninsula in the north-east of the bay was threatened with logging that would have changed the character of the area profoundly. This 143-hectare (353-acre) area, which includes remnants of an 18th century French garden established by members of Bruni D’Entrecasteaux’s 1792 expedition, has now been protected, with the assistance of a generous donation and loan from Dick and Pip Smith. It is managed by the not-for-profit Tasmanian Land Conservancy. Canon PowerShot A650 IS Shutter Speed: 1/1250sec / Aperture: F4.0 / ISO: 80

  • Blossom’s_Photo_Gallery Wooden Windmill Have never seen a Wooden Windmill like this – could be one of very few in Australia. I would be interested to know if anyone has come across a wooden windmill in their travels before and if so, where? I highly recommend a visit to Woolmers Estate, Longford, Tasmania! Woolmers Estate in Tasmania is one of the most intact 19th century homesteads in Australia. It was continuously farmed by six generations of the Archer family from its settlement around 1817 to the death of the last heir in 1994. A range of significant buildings, interior features, and artefacts survive from every period of the Estate’s history to the present. The Estate is also significant for its association with the use of convict labour through the assignment system, which provided labour to settlers in exchange for food and clothing. Situated on Woolmers Lane, 7 kilometres from the town of Longford and 20 kilometres from Launceston, the Estate is open daily to the public. Woolmers Estate was included in the National Heritage List on 23 November 2007. Canon PowerShot A650 IS Shutter Speed: 1/320sec / Aperture: F4.5 / ISO: 80
