Gerroa is an idyllic village at the Kiama end of Seven Mile Beach on the south coast of New South Wales … their sunset on Tuesday (6 January 08) was aided by smoke haze from bushfires in the Morton National Forest. After a day in which temperatures reached 40 degrees celsius and beyond, there were plenty of relaxed holiday-makers still enjoying the ambience, the breeze and the spectacular skies. GOOD FRIDAY MAMMATUS Photo best viewed large. FEATURED WORKS / “GOOD FRIDAY MAMMATUS” was featured in the group #1 ARTISTS OF RED BUBBLE I took this photo of Mammatus on a Good Friday before Easter in Ashland, Kentucky. The clouds first started rolling in and looked like fluffy white marshmallows. Then, in front of the setting sun, they dramatically began to change colors. They went from snow white to shades of silvers, pinks, grays, blues and even purples! The colors were striking and dramatic! For a few minutes they turned very dark, and it was a sight I will never forget!! These amazing mammatus clouds lasted about 45 minutes before they exited my area. We were under our second tornado watch of the year, and I found out later that I was standing right under the anvil of a severe thunderhead and that a tornado could have formed at any moment! Luckily for me it didn’t, and I was able to capture some phenomenal, amazing clouds. I can’t quite put it into words other than to say, “I closed my eyes for a few seconds and felt like I had been kissed on my cheek by an angel.” This was one time in my life that I will always remember!! This photograph of Mammatus has won National awards, has been published in an Anthology, and has been shown on National television. It is also featured in several websites throughout the USA and Australia for educational purposes.

After visiting the beautiful Cambewarra Lookout in the Morton National Park south of Sydney, you can meander down the mountain towards Nowra and this is the type of panoramic scenery you will find … Smoke haze is evident here from the bushfires further into the Morton National Park at the time.
